Yea it sucks but it lead me to a better case anyway so i guess i'm slightly grateful... lol 200 bucks for a case is an insane amount of money but u know what they say with carputers ur estimated cost doubles.

Ok i thought my power supply didn't work but it turns out i had it hooked up wrong so it all works. i'm waiting on my three antennas for my wifi card and i can seal up this case. I was gonna get Nexson to make me a dash but his communication has sucked over the past two weeks so i'll have to find someone new. Anyone want the job?

****EDIT****
Scratch my previous statement about Nexson. There was a communication mishap he is still the ONLY man for the job. I will be sending him everything next week so stay tuned for pics :-D

Sounds good and I don't think its overpowered as one of the post said back on page 1, you need some Horsepower to watch TV. Maybe not at the moment but we are less than 3 months away from the digital switch over and you can't do HDTV on single core CPU's without a chipset or video card that accelerates MPEG-2, trust me I tried with my old P4... I use a dual core 64x2 in my Media Center, I don't see why I need "less" in my Car PC project....

Good Luck on your install...

Hey I have an 07 Civic Si Coupe w/ Navi. I want to expand the ability of the navi system, but since it's apparently so hard to hack I'm looking into a carpc.

How's your project coming? I want to keep everything as stock as possible, preferably with the same sized touchscreen, physical buttons along the side, and motorized mount for CDs. It's gotta be Windows or Linux so I can hook it up to the Internet with a 3G card and use Google Maps (hopefully) for my navigation. I'm a coder so the software bit isn't as hard as getting the hardware right. Any suggestions?

This is a tough one.. If you run Linux u can skimp on hardware but to do what you want i'd say u have to fabricate like 90% of it or you can get an all in one that they sell here but there is like no support for it. I gave up on trying to put everything in the dash there is just like no room back there.

If i was suggest anything i'd say you should build a little pc and put it in the trunk and just have the screen and the cd drive in the front. If you want it to look stock talk to Nexson. He can do a nice dash piece for u that will look stock.

OK I'M BACK!!! THREAD REVIVED

Here is where i'm at. I've completed the computer and its sitting on my desk. I'm trying to get all the information for install. I'm still going to have to get Nexson to make me a dash piece for the monitor. I've decided to have the cd drive under the seat. I'm trying to find a way to mount the microphone and i'm hoping someone can give me some suggestions.

Quick addition!!! I just found out that my mini pci express wireles card does not turn on when it wakes up from standby. Its apparently waiting for a hardware switch that is on a laptop but not on my motherboard. For all those thinking about using a mini pci express wireless card DONT!!!!!

Not all cards do that, and there is a certain pin you can cover to stop it from happening.

EDIT: Ooops, I was thinking mini-pci, not mini-pci express. Hmm... wonder if the same thing exists.

Was this with the Fuzzy GM965 board? What were the problems with it? I was thinking of buying that board for my install.

Also, what red skin for CF is that? tried one of them (Aura BM Red IIRC) and CF lost most of the buttons, had to ctrl/alt/del to kill it then delete the skin folder to make it usable again.

yes that is the GM965 board. What wasn't wrong with this thing.
1. When i received the board it was DOA. Had to pay for shipping
2. When i got it back the integrated video was busted (free shipping from this point on)
3. CMOS battery holder was broken, Bios is some how partially corrupted
4. Fixed the battery bios is still corrupted.

These are all hardware problems. Now lets start on teh software problems
1. Horrible drivers. No kind of fan control
2. Mini pci express does not turn off from standby
3. Slow post (pre-post) time.

I think that is all i've noticed so far. MSI has horrid software support which is what made me change to gigabyte.

Someone else stated the off-to-music playing time was around 25 seconds, which seems relatively normal. Was yours slower than that?

Reason I was looking at this board is it seems to be the only one at a reasonable price with more than 6 channel audio. Do you know of any others?

If you don't load any USB devices then it will boot extremely fast. I'm using a SSD drive and i've used a CF card too and my time on a cold boot is about 1 min. Coming from hibernate it was about 1 min too. I don't know any other boards with 6 channel audio but i said screw it and i'm just gonna buy a separate USB sound card. They have one for like 60 bucks which isn't too bad.
