Does anyone know of an alternative to the DWW-6500?? I don't want the G4 because i can't modify the computer portion of it. I wanted to have a cd drive in the front without having to do any custom fabrication to my dashboard. I've also looked into the Xenarc MDT-x7000 but i hear its a piece of crap. Can anyone help me out on this?

Lilliput GL701?

can i ask why you are looking for an alternative. i had never seen it before this post and it looks pretty cool minus the small screen.

oh well this liliput screen isn't exactly what i'm looking for. I'm looking for a double din screen that will fit flush in my civic. The reason i don't want the dww6500 is cause i hear there are a ton of problems like buttons not working and things like that. I hear that its a horrible build quality so i'm trying to go with something else.

looking at who the main seller of the screen is i wouldn't doubt it had issues. i have seen some double din brackets for 7" monitors but that doesn't help you drive situation. theres some custom brackets in the fabrication section that members made that have access to drives behind them. maybe they can make you something similar or you could tackle it yourself.

forgot about this one:

*edit - after looking at a few different sources these all seem to be the same generic units that companies are slapping their names on.

Well that last one isn't a vga screen so that doesn't help much but if it did that would be my choice. These other ones require me to do the fabrication which i just can't do

I'm wondering about two things using this Alpine TMEM740BT since it vga capable. I saw a thread where someone was working on it and then the thread just died so i don't know if he ever completed it. The second thing i'm wondernig about is basically ripping apart another double unit and putting a vga screen in its place. I wonder if you just take everything out and have a motorized screen housing.

that could work although it would be an exspensive mistake if it didn't.

i was watching the alpine unit thread for a little while also. even if it did come to that would not solve your drive issue. the alpine unit is a screen only.

not sure if you've seen this:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/user...en-making.html

have you thought about buy a spare dsh trim piece that you could modify? then you could just go back to oem whenever you needed (i'm assuming its a lease or something).

Yea i've seen that unit and i must say it is the ugliest thing i've ever seen. It looks like one of those house phones with the huge buttons. I didn't want to have to fab the dash because i have no idea how to do it lol and i don't wanna have to pay 300 dollars for custom dash but it looks like the route that i'm going to go. I have to head over a customizing place and see if its even possible to do what i want. I'll keep everyone posted.

hmmm... thats funny. i actually like the simplicity of it (buttons could use some work though).

the fab work is fairly easy and with the amount of info on this and other websites you should be able to diy. you could probably give it 2 or 3 tries before the cost added up to what you would have to pay someone else. i can't seem to give anything to anybody to work on because they have their own ideas and i'm crystal clear on how i want everything done.

What i want to do may be a little more difficult than my original thought. I don't even know if its possible yet but my 2007 Civic stock unit has a faceplate on the dash and a headunit behind it. What i wanna do is have that faceplate spin around and reveal a screen and when i get out the car spin around to show that stock faceplate. I figure since its fairly round this might be possible but i figure there will also be some clearance issues that i'd have to see about.

Hmm this nice but i'd want to have a slim slot dvd drive in the custom dash. Thats would be my easy route. Of course the harder route sounds way cooler :-D Oh yea i can post the RR stuff i have but i'm not sure if i can post all of it. Let me know what you want me to post and i'll post those files.
