what i meant to ask was what are good specs? how much of a difference is a 400nit to a 500nit? 350:1 contrast to 500:1?

Oh all i've been able to tell is the NIT is non-SI units of cd/m^2 which is a luminance measurement. Just as an example i have a Dell XPX M1330 with a LED screen and its brightess is 300cd/m^2 = 300 nits and its pretty bright and a normal laptop is probably about 150-200 nits i believe, so these screens that are 1000 nits have got to be outrageously bright. From what i understand the idea is to get the screen so bright that it blasts through the reflection assuming u don't have a screen that is suppose to prevent reflections.

Alright its time for an actual carputer update. So as everyone says your budget just goes to hell when ur doing these things so just like everyone else mine has gone to hell.

MSI Fuzzy GM965
4965AGN - Intel Mini-PCI Express 802.11 a/b/g/n 300Mbps Laptop Wireless Card
BU-353 Weather-proof GPS Receiver

Transcend 4GB Compact Flash Card (300X Speed)
CF - SATA hard disk adapter

Phase 2
Andrea Electronics Superbeam Array Microphone Bundle
Pinnacle PCTV HD Card - ATSC HDTV

Phase 3 (the budget killer! Custom Assembly to fit computer in dash and have a slot drive)

Honda Navigation Center Panel Assembly
USB 2.0 Slim CD Enclosure
Panasonic UJ-875 Slim Slot load DVD-R/RW/+RDL/RAM Multi Drive

Phase 4
Centrafuse(POSSIBLY NOT SURE YET. CURRENTLY USING RR)
XM Package (XMD-1000) + USB adapter
ElmScan 5 USB OBD-II Scan Tool

Final Install Phase
Wires
Honda Integration Adapter - Amp Bypass
Amplifier

So far i have a final total of $2151.14 thats excluding the custom dashboard and case

If anyone is up to make some money i wouldn't mind paying someone else to do this custom dash cause i really don't want to have to even attempt it. PM me if u are interested.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm in talks with Nexson right now and he is a PRO. So it looks like i'll have a custom dash exactly how i want it. I'm also thinking about integrating a mini microphone into the dash for voice controls.

loks good... glad to see we're using some of the same stuff (so you explain it to me).

i got a t8100 for less than the t7100 at newegg (original plan was t7700). don't know if thats normal or not but the specs looked good so i bought it.

are you still planning on doing the os on the cf (looks ike it)?

well dang you lucked out on that one. I got my processor on ebay for like 65 dollars. I don't think its normal but i could be wrong. I was really trying to avoid a 200 dollar processor it was just too much money since the motherboards are like 200 dollars too. That would mean my carputer just the puter part would cost more than my desktop lol... I think thats crazy but possible.

I'm planning on CF because of the lack of support for SD but i would love to use SD. I'm going to be using RR initially though cause its free and thats a good way to keep my budget down for now but later i'll be switching to CF

hopefully all my stuff will be here by this weekend. i need to go out of town and have been waiting on some car/computer parts.

You can do what i did instead of SSD. Its not as fast but its better than a reg harddrive. The 4GB trancend 300x CF flash drive for like 60 bucks and a CF to SATA adapter for like 40 more bucks and then use nlite to compress your windows xp install. I think it can be compressed to like 400mb and that still leaves u 2 gigs free for hibernate if you choose to use hibernate.

hahaha i'm a noob lol. I just know computers and electronics on a small pcb level. Like these relays i've never used relays before and couldn't see how they were used for windows but of course after finding out there are SPDT relays. Now it makes perfect sense. On a pcb level we would just use a fet switch.

Hi Bxsteez,

Sorry to hear about your RR issue's, especially as I recommended it so stongly to you but as far as phone control it does not work well on any front-end as of now (mentioned it before get a parrot kit). But voice control does work pretty well in RR I'm currently using it. The setup is a little odd depending on how you want it to respond but it does work.

Yea i found out voice control works on RR but still no OBDII and sadly centrafuses interface is ugly!!! But they do have that nice skype plugin :-D I tried to integrate skype into RR but the window doesn't resize enough to fit. I'll probably use RR to save money but once i get the cash i'll be switching to either centrafuse or streetdeck
