So i spoke with nationapn and he has his GM965 working and he is using kingston KVR667D2N5 RAM and this RAM has the exactly the same specifications and timing as the RAM i've tried so i'm thinking that these industrial motherboards are hit and miss. I don't think they are designed as well as the mainstream motherboards. I'm going to RMA the board and keep you all posted.

I would even say screw the GM965 board and use the 945 Fuzzy board. I wanted to use a mini pci express wifi card but it just doesn't seem worth it at this point. I may end up asking MSI to give me the 945GM2 Fuzzy board. I think that takes the same socket p processor

Yea thats what i'm doing now. Of course you have to pay for return shipping but i guess thats nothing compared to buying a new board.

yeah i'm not too worried about it. even after i pay shipping i will still have saved a couple bucks and end up with a new board.

i'm really still hoping that it works tonight, but realisticly... i'm pretty sure the reason it was returned was because the first owner couldn't get it to work either. it has obviously had a cpu and cooler installed on it before.

*edit - but i will lose my integrated cf adapter. booo...

Send it back without the adapter... I assume they don't know which ones had it and which ones didn't

Oh wow i actually didn't know it was integrated into the board. I didn't think the RAM was going to work but this also leads me to believe that i actually got two bad motherboards which is strange. I might go for a refund and start dealing with newegg on the jetway board because this paying for the RMA is crazy. That means my processor would need to be changed.. ahhhh well at least we know its just a huge number of bad motherboards

If you find out that the problem is your mobo, not your RAM, have you considered this AOpen board from logicsupply? It's Socket P, and I'm thinking about switching to it since I've been having some trouble with the video card on my GM965 (and would like to be able to customize my bios boot logo, which you can't do with the new AMI Bios)...

Thats a nice board but its a little expensive for me since i'd have to get rid of my mini pci express wireless n card plus its like 40 dollars over what i paid for the GM965 and like 60 over the Jetway Extreme board which i think is the best one. Mostly because you are dealing with a decent company and not these half baked companies that charge u to RMA a part. Screw E-ITX they suck

The Aopen is a nice board I have the i945gtt but it is prone to issues. I had to RMA my board 6 times before I got one that worked properly. You may want take a look at this thread http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...945gtt-16.html quite a few others had simular issue and had to RMA multiple times.

The i965 is the newer version of the i945 so they may not have the issues the i945 did, just thought I'd give you a heads up.

So here is an update to my build. I'm horribly behind schedule due to the fact i can't get a working motherboard. So i'm in limbo waiting for MSI to send me a new motherboard. I'm almost at the point of saying screw this carputer idea and just building a media computer but i'll give MSI a couple more tries before i give up.
