2007 Honda Civic SI Coupe Carputer install [Updated]

Hey all. I've been on this site for quite some time looking up info on building a carputer. I'm putting in my 07 Honda Civic Si and I'm still in the research phase of my build so tell me what u think of my current specs.

RAM - 2GB DDR2 800 (wish i had a 1GB stick but i don't)

Have you researched your selections here? Have you researched reliability on the hardware and support for the software?

I'd HIGHLY suggest that before you go much further.

I'd HIGHLY suggest reading up about the Bluetooth dongle before diving in and waiting for it.

I assume this bluetooth dongle will work with streetdeck I thought this is the one that was being used with the Infill G4. Its from the Mp3car store. Am i wrong?

Do more research, you are way overpowering it with that core 2 duo, and 2gb RAM IMO, unless you plan on using AutoCAD or playing COD4, i seriously doubt you need that much hyperthreading, but again that my two cents. B4 you post what you plan on putting in your whip, give a little background, what do you plan on using this for etc.. etc..
why would you even try to put the OS on a flash drive? not trying to flame but seriously.\

Good point i should give a little background. Basically i'll be using it for anything i can think of at the time but mostly i want to be able to run SD, watch movies (anime), watch tv, use my phone and i thats about all i can think of now. You know how when you want to do something on your comp and find out its underpowered and everything runs slowly I HATE THAT it happens at work all the time so i want to be prepared for that. I have thought about using less RAM because i might want to use hibernate....... Still up in the air i'm going to run it with a 1 gig stick i have laying around and see how that goes.

Now for the CF drive. I want to put the OS on a CF because access time is much faster than a spinning harddrive. I also live in Iowa and we had a low of -38 degrees this winter and solid state drives are fully functional at low temps.

I also have a couple of questions that i have run into. How many SATA drives does the M2-ATX 160W Intelligent DC-DC PSU support? I couldn't seem to find an answer to that one. Also has anyone used the JetWay J9F2-EXTRMEM MB? How bad is the post time?

Updates:
I just bought my processor and i took it down a notch i got a core 2 duo t5500 (1.83GHz) a great 80 bucks on ebay with a 3 month warranty.

compact flash has much shorter access times. but slower transfer rates.

this more than likly will give you slower boot times.
if the hdd will work in the lower temps then just use that and make a image of the boot partition so if the drive does fail then u have easy recovery.

I thought that for a while but since the harddrive takes time to begin to spin it would make the boot time longer. Understandably sata 2 is about 375MB/s and sata 1 is about 187 MB/s and the compact flash drive is 45MB/s but instantaneous. I think this would be much faster boot up. I am using a momentus harddrive which from what i understand has 128 MB of flash memory in the harddrive itself. We will see which is faster. I'm thinking its going to be the CF. Anyone else have an opinion on this cause cutting out the CF will save me like 100 bucks. My cost has inflated to 2800 from 1900 lol

the speed of the sata II cable is rated to 3Gb/s however i have never seen speeds over 100Mb/s out of a desktop sata drive. at least the 7200RPM drives anyway.

as for the spin up time of the drive. the drive will be spinning at full RPM before the bios finishes POST. only advantage of CF is the seek time. its in the nanoseconds instead of milliseconds.

Hmmm that is news to me

I actually didn't know that it was so much lower than rated 100Mb/s is really slow its only like 12.5MB/s i guess that means that the CF read/write times are off too huh? Transcend is rating there extreme CFs at 45MB/s have u used these before how terrible is that?

sorry diden't mean 100mbits but 100Mb per sec.
drives in my pc at home get around 75-80Mb per sec.

imo i'd go with the hdd drive. it more likley to fail but should be faster and with the cost
of hdd's atm who cares if it does fail?

Since i already bought the harddrive i'm going to try that one first and see how fast i can get that to resume and how fast i can get through a cold start. I really don't want the harddrive to fail that would be annoying cause in iowa its freezing 80% of the year. I'm going to test both setups and i'll post some times when i have my test station setup. I'm buying part by part watching ebay and slickdeals :-D i got my ram for 13 bucks that was EXCELLENT!
