StreetDeck Bluetooth Microphone?

I've been doing some searching and reading and haven't quite found out information on using a bluetooth mic with streetdeck. Say using a bluetooth headset or something like that. I have a jawbone and i would to be able to use it with street deck. Is this possible?

Hello,

The StreetDeck bluetooth dongle is in beta testing (and has been so for quite some time) and is not currently available. So using using a jawbone with SD would not be possible as of now. Note most people want to use bluetooth for hands free in which conversation audio is heard through car speakers in conjunction with an external mic.

Also keep in mind currenlty the audio quality (how well callers hear your voice)for bluetooh phone via CarPC is nowhere near what you will get using your jawbone without CarPC or an after market kit such as the ones available from Parrot.

You may also want to strongly reconsider using StreetDeck as a front-end as there has been an issue with support for the product for the past few months as seen in the link below.

Oh wow just read through this a little bit. That sucks big time. why are they testing hardware for SD if its not even going to be supported anymore? What front end would you recommend? i really like the gestures of the Street Deck does any other software do something similar?

They arent stopping support on SD entirely. They are just right now under a gigantic NDA apparently, and cannot do anything. So now, no support. Once they get back up, I am sure there will be support.

And RoadRunner (Free) and Centrafuse ($$$) have gestures as well as SD.

Have the StreetDeck people released a statement or an ETA as to when they will be up and running? I guess in reality i need to download the trial of both and decide which one i want. I chose streetdeck cause it looked the best and it had gestures i guess if i did that with operating systems i would be in vista hell right now.

I think I am missing the question. Why would you want to? If you are wearing a headset, wouldn't it be paired directly to the phone anyway and alert you to a call? Are you just wanting the computer to dial and mute? The dialing is a bad idea no matter what you use as you take your eyes off the road. As for muting, it just seems a long way to go for such a small feature.

When I tried CF2 with my Blackberry, it told me I had to use a headset, but I don't know if it would have worked or not. I don't know of any phones that "dual pair", which is what you would need to use a headset and the computer. It's usually the headset that will. The only way I know of this would work is if you ran everything through the headset. In other words, pair the headset with the computer, not the phone. Music would suck bigtime, but you could then use your headset for phone.

Originally i was thinking about using my jawbone as just a bluetooth mic and still have the audio work fine. I do this on my laptop all the time with skype. If i could some how have CF2 work with my jawbone as the mic without sending the audio through the headset that would be great.

My last post was just a general question of using a bluetooth mic with CF2 cause SD is so particular about its hardware.

I know that CF only recently implemented bluetooth functionality and I believe they are still working out the bugs. My recommondation for phone and bluetooth is keep the CarPC out of the picture for now (save yourself some headaches).

You may also want to consider using Road Runner as a front-end works really well and its free.

Yea i looked into RR way back and wasn't too much of a fan of it. Probably because i don't feel like coding my own plugins and things. I will take ur recommendation and just build bluetooth in for robustness and wait till all the bugs are worked out. How is CF2s gestures ? I wish there were more videos on CF2. I've seen one but didn't do much for me.

Yes, you can use a bt mic to control the speech commands and you can also use it with the phone module. But like some other folks are saying, you may as well just control the phone from the bt mic if you're using it anyway. Using CF's phone module is supposed to turn your pc's hardware (mic and speakers) into the headset. If you're using a BT earpiece, you're kind of defeating the purpose.
