Biggest noob of all need help :)

Hi amazing site you guys have here im glad to have joined your community and hope to learn over time and hopefully help others once i my self have gained some knowledge tho for now i have no idea.

i just got my 1st car and i want to put a Car PC in it,
i bought a VoomPC and a 7" motorized Lilliput in dash monitor

i have hooked up the monitor to where the old stereo was by rewiring the old harness on to my monitor, tho for the computer i want it to sit in the boot tho i have no idea where to find/run the wires.

this is the car pc im using an the connector i need to connect is there a way to split any wires in the boot to the harness and what colour are the wires im looking for to split, where is the ignition wire located etc. sorry for the noob question tho this is a area i wouldn't mind getting in to thanks for your time and help.

btw i do not have a sub or a amplifier just stock speakers that are wired into the monitor which replaced my old stereo and my car is a hyundai excel 2000 model, how ever in the future i will get a new sound system, also here is a link of my monitor.

I'm confused by what information you actually want. Are you asking for the wiring diagrams? What I suggest is to google your car and find others who have added sound systems or see if you can find anybody else on here that added a CarPC to your car. What you are going to have to do is run a good size gauge wire to the trunk from the battery though, that I know for sure, because using the power from any other electrical circuit is extremely dangerous.

Yea you need to run an 8 gauge wire (at least) from the battery, through the firewall (seperates the inside of the car from the engine), under the paneling/carpet and into your trunk. Then You will need another 8 gauge (should be the same size as the power wire) wire to ground the PC to the car chassis.

To find out which wire is the ignition wire, I would recommend either getting a multimeter and testing the wires from the harness you connected to the monitor, or looking for a wiring diagram for your car.

Thanks alot for the help i have some what a understanding :P so the 8 gauge is the thickness of the wire right ? also i have to run the wire Directly from the battery for the 12v Positive tho how about for the ACC 12v is that classified as the ignition one and also where would be the best place to split that cable and would i also need 8 gauge cable for it.

You don't need thick gauge wire for the ACC 12v. There is very little power drawn from it as it only serves as a signal to the PSU to start and shutdown. You can use a fuse tap and probably get a switched signal from your radio fuse. (You should get and use a digital multimeter for this purpose and also to ALWAYS check polarity and voltage before hooking up your expensive electronics!)

Google up a distro block and you'll see that it is a device for distributing power from the battery wire to multiple wires.

Be sure to FUSE everything as described in the FAQs (a fused distro block is a good idea)

Awsome thanks guys few more questions how many gauges does the ground have to be and can i just use any part of the chassis or does it have to be pulled from the battery. also on my car pc wiring harness i have to orange cables which says AMP RMT GND and AMP RMT what are they for thanks

You really should search for this stuff, but...

Generally you use the same gauge for ground that you used for power and you need to connect the ground wire to bare metal, use some sandpaper and sand off some paint and connect the wire to the chassis with a screw or something.

The AMP RMT is amp remote, its equivalent to the ACC 12v. you can use that to turn your computer and/or amp on. That can be a small wire 18-20 gauge or something. I'm guessing the AMP RMT GND is the ground for the remote turn on, not sure what thats for or if you should do anything with it, someone else might know.

Awsome ok now few more things i need cleared if you guys dont mind thanks, what kind of fuse do i need to buy and for the fuse and distributer block do i place it b4 or after the firewall and also the wires on my wiring harness is much thinner then the 8 gauge battery wire what do i do ? and lastly how do i find out how many watts the car pc pulls thanks and cheers i have learnt alot in a day thank u so much guys lol

You have a couple options for fuses, you can buy a fused distrobution block if you are running multiple power wires off of the battery wire, or you can pick up some in-line fuses/fuse holder. You'll have to figure out how many amps the fuse should be, it depends on wattage,length,gauge,... Also the fused distro block should tell you what kind of fuses it takes.

You need a fuse within 12 inches of the battery on the wire you are running, then I would put the fused distribution block in the cabin rather than the engine, makes it much easier to get to and work with.

The wires on your wiring harness should only be used for signal/turn on purposes. So if you are running a wire from, say the 12v ACC or similar, you can run a pretty small wire like 18-20 gauge or something and you'll be fine.
