98 Hyundai Elantra Sedan

Car - 98 Hyundai Elantra Sedan
Laptop - Toshiba Satellite A210
Car Audio - Stock (2 DIM)

Ideal - 7-inch touchscreen
mp3/cd head unit

My problem is that the location which I was hoping to put my laptop (create a slot above the glove compartment) is too small for my laptop (10.5" length x 14.24" width x 1.5" height when closed). I need a well ventilated area which is easily accessible and could really use some help, perferably not the trunk. I also need help in choosing the head unit and touch screen. I'm hoping to not spend too much on this project as it is more of hobby.

Sorry for the informality, I had 3 paragraphs written before my power bar turned off along with my desktop.

I can include some pictures tomorrow if need be.

Thanks,
Josh

i mounted my setup under the passenger seat(mine is not a laptop setup though)-- try to take some measurements-- this is often a large, partially ventilated, unused area that a laptop might fit in.

for cd/mp3 decks, really anything with a aux input will work--the easiest way to find out what will work is to go to a best buy, or any car electronics store and play with the different head units until you find something that you like.

for touch screens, it is best to go for a solid screen-- any of the motorized/pullout screens seem to have a lot of problems with gears breaking, and display ribbon cables breaking..

Thanks for the fast reply.

For the touch screen and head unit it would be nice if I could get some suggestions on reliable brands. Thanks for tip on the flip-out touchscreens!

as of now-- 9-25-09, i have not read of one flipout touch screen, of any brand/model/make, that was extremely well built, or consistantly reliable. so far, the only difference seems to be that each unit has a very specific set of common problems...

from what i have read, zenarc screens seem to like to break ribbon cables, and lilliput monitors like to strip gears-- there have been some members that modded some metal gears to work, and claim that fixed the issue, but because i really havent' looked into it too much, i don't know much more than that.

i am really hoping that someone can prove me wrong at some point, because i have some ideas for the flipout screens, but refuse to use them until they become more reliable...
