If you couldn't find the answer to this question in the FAQs, then you're not looking very hard.

I will link you directly to the FAQ that answers your question: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/advf...iew&advfaqid=7

every computer and head unit is completely different. for some computers, you can change what the output jack is assigned to, others, you can't. some head units have aux in's, or support a add-on module that will take a aux in, and some models don't.

i re-read your responses a couple of times and think that darques answer was more than adequate(sp?), being that you originally asked only how to connect the computer to your stereo.

you will need to give us model numbers for the equipment:

generic info: most laptops have a headphone jack output-- use this for sound.
if your pioneer head unit does not have a front or rear aux input, the only ones that you can add one to will be ones with model numbers starting with DEH-P_ _ _ _. any other models will not support pioneers P-bus adapters.

The headphone jack on the laptop is an OUTPUT.
It would go to the auxilliary INPUT on your headunit.

That answers what I was looking for thanks. I do have aux input on my headunit just didn't know if the headphone jack would work. I am new to this kind of stuff so hopefully I will get better in the future.

And that is why laptop installs are more of a PITA than desktop installs.

You have to do some research into your make/model of laptop to find schematics and other documentation to find what you need.
I'd start with the manufacturer's website.

Other options are using WoL or WoR.
If your laptop supports resume from a USB device, that may be another option.

The way you can test this is to use a digital multimeter and check for continuity across the pins, then press the button and see if you get continuity. If you do, those are the pins.

it should work ok. if you are going to use a inverter, and then use the power cord that came with the laptop, you might run into noise issues from the inverter-- but the only way to know would be to try it and if you do have noise problems, look at solutions at that point
