computer in car
Ok this may sound far fetched but this has been something I have been thinking about doing alot. I want to put a 2ghz desktop i have into my 1995 firebird transam. Im wondering if anyone around here has any experience with knowing how to run wires through a car and if they have any advice for me.
My plan is to take my desktop and then purchase a large computer lcd screen. I want to put the desktop in my trunk and have my soundcard pump out mp3's into my car audio system. I will want to somehow attach the lcd screen to the roof of my car so it hangs down, perhaps on the t-top proctector door so i can slide it forward and backward. I want minimum loose wires that are visible - i dont want it to look tacky, or else i may get the image of being nerdy for having a computer in my car. But if done right, and the whoel thing is installed in a sleek looking fashion i think people would be amazed by the simplicity, yet effectiveness. I could have dvds playing in my car all the time and store thousands of mp3's and music videos on the computer's hardrive.
anyone have any suggestions or want to tell me how crazy i am?

You've come to the right place. We're all nerds.
Searching and reading is the best place to start - have a look what other people are doing (nothing you've suggested is unusual - it's all been done before).
For installation ideas and howto's, looking at car audio websites will be useful as well.
C!

My first car computer was in my 95 Camaro back in 98/9. My buddies told me that it can not be done. Two days later, I had the machine in the tiny trunk of the Camaro. That shut them up quick. We're all here to help each other. I am pretty new on the board but been on the scene for a while now. Anything can be done my man!

first of all, do you have any computer knowledge? You can buy a roof mount screen. But for an LCD desktop monitor.............? I hope its a flatscreen.

Look at some of the projects in this section of the forums:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show-off-your-project/
it will help you get some ideas,, maybe not the roof mounted idea,, but you will at least get a catalyst for ideas,,

How big a screen? Is it a Raw LCD or is it in a housing? If it's raw I would make a fiberglass housing for it

You resurrected a thread that had been dormant for nearly six years and added nothing to the discussion.
Why?

Why?

You commented on his resurrecting of a thread, and you yourself added nothing to the thread. Why?
tis what newbies do, they don't read thread dates. At least he's searching.

Now that the spammer is gone, the back-and-forth between malcolm & I makes no sense whatsoever.
