How would one hook up this LCD to a carputer? (noob)

I am still trying to figure out the best investment I can make for my carputer. All I want to do is be able to load windows and control winamp so I am not worried about how clear the screen is and such. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=1498 and was wondering if I were to buy it would it be easy to hook up to an M1000 (onboard VGA/tv-out)? I am not sure if this type of LCD (i think it is composite?) needs and inverter/controller or anything like that.

That should hook right up to your M1000's composite TV out, yes. It will not hook to the VGA connector.

For power, you'd have to ask the seller if it comes with a car adaptor or what input voltage it requires. The page does not list the specs, other than that it seems to be marketed for automotive use, so it probably takes something 12V or less (possibly even unregulated power direcctly from the car's battery.

Although I'm a newb myself, I dunno if I would go with anything that doesnt have vga input or at least a relatively high resolution. A couple of my friends have 6" and 7" lcd screens in their cars that they got for around $100 off etronics.com and they work great for watching dvds and playing console games on, but I borrowed one and hooked it up to both my via m1000 (which I'm planning to make a carputer with) and my laptop. On one of them the tv out on both boards wouldn't work at all and on the other the resolution looked like ***. I found a 7" lcd with vga and rca input that runs a resolution of 1024x768 (which I think is damn good for a little 7" lcd) for only $228 with about $30 shipping. That's the one that I plan on buying for my carputer since I also want to use gps, have a rearview cam, and watch dvd's and divx movies.

If all you're worried about is winamp then I guess a small res isnt much of a problem, but the smaller lcd I tried mine on didnt work at at all so who knows. Hope this helps.

i think this is the one that everybody's talking about but afraid to be the first one to get since there is no specs for lcd panel

it looks like it has the rca input, so hooking it up to epia's tv-out shouldnt be a prob. quality is another issue. so if you have enough money to go vga - go for it. i guarantee you that in a few weeks after getting this screen you will want something bigger and better quality. so why not do it all from the beginning? less headache later on
