the key to using inverters is to ground every electronic device to the same ground. that means using the frame/body of the car to ground your installation. since the body and frame are already grounded, it is an ideal place to ground your new installations.
also, remember to hook up the inverter directly to the battery, with an inline fuse immediately off the postive terminal. the fuse is to protect your car should a short circuit result from the wire rubbing off some of the insulation. make sure the fuse is a bit above the normal pull of the inverter, as you dont want it to trip under normal use... only if there is a problem. also, use a good heavy gauge wire, that is appropriate for the power draw of your equipment. there are several good calculators on the web, and if you are in doubt, ask someone knowledgable in car audio installations, they should be able to tell you what to use for what power. DONT wire it to the cigarette lighter, you are just asking for problems.
