Not really sure how much you want to spend but if you search eBay for last years Pioneer models, maybe a p4300 or p3300, you could get one for about $100 and then just get the P-bus adaptor HERE or from THIS GUY or if you want to wait a little I'll sell you mine when I get my EQ and go Head Unitless...

Yes there might be other people who will tell you other models and such but I've never had any problems or issues with Pioneer.

i'm going to run into the same problem. I've got a stock radio in my jeep and no aux input. But i want to go headunit less.

My saving grace is I have the upgraded sound system so there's an amp under my back seat. What i'm thinking I can do is get a wiring harness from the car audio shop and solder the speaker wires to some female rca connectors. Then go form my computer to rca into the female connectors.

Sounds like a ghetto solution (and it is) but i'm hoping it will last me until I can get a real amp for my components.

What do you mean by head unitless? Also, how long you talking and how much to sell your Pioneer?

Thanks!

Get rid of the head unit and buy a little amp that has a high level input and blam... directly from carPC to speaker ( no middle man ) this way you can use the EQ and PC to get the best quality sound from your car

meaning i won't have a head unit. the computer supplies the preamped signal, then the amp amplifies it and sends it on to the speaker... there's no reason to have a head unit.

now that I think about it some mroe tho, I don't think my idea for using the stock amp will work. i may just have to buy a 4 channel amp.

Ok.. With that being said.. What's a good / cheap little amp that has a high level input?

So that would be.. Soundcard to Amp but how do I get amp to speakers? I would have to rip apart my doors and what not to pull all the speaker wire out to tie into the amp correct??

But what if the situation arises and you want to listen to the radio.. Or a friend wants you do listen to a song he has on CD right then and there.. Are you screwed??

correct me if i am wrong, but i believe computer speakers use the headphone sized jacks and amps use the RCA size jacks. Is there sound quality loss if i get a converter to connect headphone jacks to RCA jacks?

I don't have any lab data to say yes or no but i would have to agree that it seems to me like there's some loss of quality. it's probably not noticable but there's got to be some loss. the 1/8" jack just isn't that great of a connection.

I'd really like to run digital back to the amps but alas I think I'd need an expensive sound processor (haven't found anything cheap)

Yea, I know I could put a cd in the cdrom but I planned on putting my carPC under my seat (hopefully) so that wouldn't be very conveinent (sp).

And do you have a link to a rampage amp that you recommend?

Thanks!

Your going to have to have one LONG honkin IDE cable, no?

Checked audiovox's site and figures:

"Error

No long IDE cable ... you can get external USB or Firewire drives ... a few people on here have bought the firewire IDE chasis for $40 and then just ripped the adapter piece out of it.

check the M3 over in the show off your project section.
