Suggestion/help with plain ol' incar mp3 player

All I'm looking for is just a mp3 player, needs no video or anything.

So far I've been looking at a eden mobo with onboard sound, video (2 TV output ports (S-Video or optional RCA TV out))http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ct_Code=110601

Next for the screen, I don't want anything fancy... I am looking at a serial display module, possibly something from here: http://www.linuxcentral.com/catalog/index.php3?cat[]=modm&id=C1CfRETTS0iCX

I really am in the dark as far as what specific things I would need for this, and if it would even be worth it compared to an ipod for about 300. All I want is to play some MP3s through the car speakers (still need to get some car speakers, any recomendations?) for cheap. So if making a carputer isn't going to be as cheap as a ipod or something similar, just tell me how I woudl get the ipod connected to a car stero system that just has a tape player... Or what new stero thing I would need to get to use the ipod.

Thanks

if your only requirement is mp3's through the deck, the two ways to get there are either get a tape adapter from a CD kit to use with your Ipod, get a FM modulator (there's a neat one just for ipods) or get a head unit that plays MP3's that are burnt onto CD's. If that is your only requirement, a carputer sounds overkill.

Wink

Well, I was actually looking for something more direct than a fm tuner or a tape player, both of those sound like *** in a tin can. :P

Is there a stero thing out there that can accept the 2.5mm jack of an ipod?

There are headunits that have aux rca inputs that you can hook up. Just get a cable that has stereo rca to 1/8 headphone jack. I know radio shack has them.

If you're looking for a standalone mp3 player with a simple display, how about this?

Empeg player

Its standalone, fits in a single DIN slot or just about anywhere you would want to mount it. Not sure about cost, but it would sure fill your requirements nicely!
