connections required??
i jus came across this site last night and i thought it was interesting. I've seen my uncle's onboard computer in his X5 5 years ago, and ever since then i've been thinking about doing it to mine. My main question is what connections/wires do I need to make this thing operate? All I know is that the power from the computer goes to an inverter, but after that im clueless as to what kind of wires i need to buy and such. Is there a site to order these special wires? thnx!

Well, the power to a computer can come from an inverter, but there are other options out there. An inverter with an standard PC PSU is only one of them. A DC-DC solution such as the PW-xx units are better IMO, and are available through this site. Read up on the power supplies forum.

Let's see, for my computer, the total wiring neccessary was:
Two 25' spools of 10 gauge (red and black) wire for power wiring.
My audio cables, in order from my mother board:
One RCA-> 1/8" Miniplug converter
Two RCA Audio cables
JVC Aux. In converter
My RCA video cable
One custom Molex adapter I made so my screen could be powered from my power supply
One USB extension cable.
An IDE ribbon cable from my HD to my Motherboard
I think that's it...none of that is particularly special though.

Hi, im a 16 years old Swedish boy that speak and write pretty bad english, but now to my problem. If i have ha PIII with a AGP Graphicard and a Harddrive and a DVD player. All that have a 350 W Powersupply, can i have instead of that one this one http://www.mp3car.com/products/pw-70a.html ? That one is just on 100W or is it not? In sweden we have 220V. I think its stupid to transform it from 12V - 220V and then back to 12V. Can you just not take the 12Volts from the car directly in to the computer?
Best regards Niklas Grahn, Sweden

You should be OK with the PW-70a. It supplies 100 watts, which should be enough for a P3 and drives. You're going to be close to the maximum load on it, though.
One problem you might have is that the PW-70a plugs directly into your system's motherboard. There might not be room on your board for it. So you may need an ATX power extension cable.

I have a 300W inverter running a 450w PSU.. Works fine, because my computer is pulling about 40w, prob a bit less. If you could figure out shipping from US->Sweeden, I bet someone (I'd do it..) would buy an inverter and send it to you. Mine was $35 (I think) shipped from eBay.

In light of the cost of the power inverter, I would skip the purchase of the PW70a, and buy a power supply from Opus Solutions. They have 90 watt and 150 watt supplies. They are pricey, but worth it if your alternatives are that expensive, as you would not need an inverter. I don't know what taxes you would incurr getting that from the states. I recommend getting the 150 watt supply if you have room for it - it's larger than the 90 watt. My 90 watt supply from then cost about $170 with the extras I wanted and shipping.
See www opussolutions com for more info.
