This is what i plan on doing, no HU, carputer goes right to AMP - My stock AMP has no RCA plugs and found out my stock AMP wont work without the stock HU,

So basically I have to ditch the stock AMP and HU
I now nothing about how all this audio/AMPs get hooked up
In gonna get it professional installed,but i dont know what to look for on the AMP,
i think my car is a 4.1(2 fronts,2rears,sub) so the AMP i get, should have 5 RCA "inputs"??

what AMPs are you guys using without the HU??
Dont want to spend more then $100 - 150(if possible)

Now let me get this straight - once my AMP is hooked up with the current stock speakers i just plug my lineout on PC to the rca inputs on the AMP, & I should have sound???

I just want to get an idea before I go to the install shops, alot of then here(NYC) BS ya alot

your going to have trouble finding an amp at that price.

you dont NEED a 5 channel amp (they cost more) you can live with a 4 channel amp... but it has to be a good one, or 2 2 channel amps..

if you use a 2 channel amp for the 4 speakers inside, and a 2 channel amp (bridged to 1 channel) this will give you the most cost effective solution.

or if your really trying to keep it under 100-150.. you may want to keep your head unit and stock amp.. and use a rf modulator or a aux or cd input converter for your stock head unit.

If all four speakers (all 4 corners) are 4 ohm, you can get away with a 2 channel amp as long as it' 2 ohm stable.

Na that would be no good, the whole purpose of this project is for me not to use a HU

No that's not gonna fly. Are you sure the fronts are 2 and the rears are 4? What kinda car do you have?

what makes you think you cant use your stock amp - as long as it has inputs behind the dash you can convert each RCA into a +/- speaker wire, and if you can grab a switched 12V you can turn your amp on without the HU...maybe an idea if you REALLY want to save time/moeny.

what kinda car do you have? my audi's BOSE amp can work without a HU....just takes some tweaking....

Face it... you're going to need to spend more than 150 bucks. You'd need at least a 4 channel amp and then a 2 channel in bridged mono. Not to mention that you'd need either a build in x-over for the sub or a seperate one. Since you're speakers are wierd impedances you're going to have a hard time finding 2 ohm stable amps for that cheap a price range also. Plus, using stock speakers with upgraded amps usually isn't a good idea since you could potentially fry your speakers. All in all... you're in over 150 bucks.

Why do you want to go through the trouble of installing a versital sound system, that you apparently have in mind, only to short yourself in the department that actually makes the sound?

i have a 2000 Lexus GS300 with stock Pioneer System


i know cause many people who are VERY familiar with lexus audio systems and who actually tried different setups said it cant be done , Here is one response i got :

"He said the car's AV stuff is very very integrated with the car, He hinted that the amp might be controlled by a "bus" of some sort, and turn on digitally, instead of a simple 12v switched turn-on. i'd say ditch it. The factory speaker wiring should all be at that amp location, and those should be fine to tap into with your 5 channel amp"

see when i first came onto this site, i thought i could just use my stock speakers and AMP w/no HU, when it comes to car audio systems i know very very little
i guess my best bet is to just take it into a professional install shop and make them do it. the PC part i have no prob. doing(setting up,running wire,making custom fabircation for indash LCD screen,etc..)
just trying to get this audio figured out is a pain



never said i wanted/had in mind a "versital sound system"
Im no biggie on sound , my stock speakers and sub are fine to me
The reason i didnt want to go over $150 is because i rather put the money into other things for the PC,GPS Software....like i said sound is not that important for me cause i think my stock speakers sound fine(if they didnt sound good then id be in a different situation)

my point is your expectations of 100-150 are un realistic for the amp setup.

With a 2 channel amp you can still run those speakers (front and rear)

if you run them in the following manner.

front speakers in series to each other
rear speakers in series to each other

front and back sets in parallel

this would give you 4 ohm total. but the front will be much louder than the rear.

if the front speakers are small this may not work at all.(may end up being too much power to them depending on the amp you get)


before setting something like this up, its important to find out the wattage rating of the speakers.

sorry, that wiring diagram isnt my strong suit but what i would say is this: 2 things: when you pull the HU (as i assume you have/can) you should find some sort of a wiring pinout for the back of it (on my audi's it is just a little sticker with a pin diagram). Look at that and make SURE its not just a switched 12V. if it isnt, you may want to consider relocating the HU to some other (obscure) location and leaving the BUS (sic?) which apparently turns on the AMP plugged in but tapping the line-inputs to the amp and using them for your computer sound. I dont know much about amps (other than subwoofer amps), so i cant really help in the door speaker amp department.

Dam all this is confusing
Im just gonna bring to a couple of pro install shops and see what they say and make them do it(just wiring the system audio w/PC)the indash screen i can do and has been done before by a buddy of mine - here is a PIC of his setup, LCD screen in his dash no carpc & no touchscreen though

OK guys I decided to spend the extra cash and get a 5 Channel AMP,
CHeck this out - HERE - any good??

Now my next question is can this AMP be used with my current stock speakers setup @ (front) have 2 ohm impedance values. Rears are 4 ohm and the sub is a 2 ohm

I have 2F, 2R, 2 tweeters, & sub
