GPS with voiceguidance on the carputer?

Ok, here's another very newbie question.
I'm thinking about installing a carputer and I've read on the forum that there is software which uses voiceguidance along with route planning. Which software could I use? And does it have maps of Europe?

I'm currently using a car navigation system (VDO Dayton) which works great!

Is the carputer GPS comparable to a car navigationsystem? Accuracy, calculationspeed? etc.

Infomap Navigator Europe offers the best value for money at £125 including a Haicom GPS. Gives street level mapping for the whole of Europe. Visual and audible driving directions. Map rotation so the direction you are travelling is always up the screen. Automatic recalculation if you go off route.

no carputer GPS aren't as accurate becasuse they aren't connected to the car such were as most afermaket GPS units are. They can detect things like speed, turning of streeing wheel, position etc, etc and from all there things calulate a much more accurate repsonse.

The best GPS software for Europe is destinator 3 but it costs £300.

How do they actually work? Cause my navigationsystem is aftermarket and I had to connect it to the vehicle pulse for it to be able to read out vehicelspeed, direction etc. Without the pulseconnection it didn't work at all.

All PC based ones use purely the information they recieve from the satellite. Therefore, it is not quite as accurate. Your aftermarket one will use the speed you're travelling, which is updated more regularly, to keep your position shown on the map more accurate. PC based ones have to calculate everything from the 1 second updates they recieve from the sats.

But it isn't that inaccurate, since almost everyone here is using GPS on the carputer.
Ok, man. Thanks for the info. Could anyone give me an estimate for the error between PC Based Nav. and CarNav.?

At 60mph you travel approx 30 yards per second so the difference is unlikely to be more than that.
The more upmarket system have gyroscopic compasses and speedo interfaces that can dead reckon your position in the absence of a GPS signal. A few months ago we drove from Leeds to Munich in a Mercedes fitted with their satnav and a laptop running Navigator and the Haicom GPS. Not once did the two materially differ in displayed position and the only time we lost satellite lock was on the ferry!
