5v power to USB SB Audigy 2 NX

Hi,

Hope someone here can help out. I just got a SB Audigy 2 NX External USB and need help getting power to it. Can I simply hook up the 5v and GRD from one of the molex connectors off an OPUS 90w PS and splice into the barrel connector that's supplied? Will this work? Any other suggestions?

Anyone know the size/type of barrel plug that is supplied? I may just want to get another one so that I can keep the current plug the way it is.

Thanks for your help!

Another job for the multimeter, With the power cable plugged in figure out which is positive and which is negative. You can then either cut the wire or go to RadioShack and get one (Adapt-a-Plug). Take the cable with you. It's a lot easier to figure out what you need when you have it right there in front of you. It's what I used to make a long cable for my radar detector that goes into the headliners, down the A-pillar, and under the dash. Anyway, using the continuity tester on the mulitmeter just hook up your connector to the molex plug. Think the red one is 5V and black (obviously) will be your ground. Double check the voltage to be sure in case I'm wrong. (1 out of 2 chance.)

I just opened up the Audigy and soldered on a standard PC molex connector.

What is the sound quality difference between the built-in AC97 audio and the Audigy? Audible? Better?

The Audigy 2NX is much better... and I ran my power from the 150W Opus 5V rail as well, never had a problem!

Thanks again!

I am wondering the same thing..

At a GUESS I would say the black/white (dashes) would be the positive wire.... yes?

This sounds amazingly like what I had to do to run a molex to the +5v in for my USB hub. I didn't know which wire was +-, so I opened up the part that came with the hub that plugged into the wall (that I had just thrown away). On the board in there it was labeled.
Sounds like you can do something similar to find which to run.

When in doubt, use a multimeter. They are invaluable (espically since it prevents burning up your electronics or yourself).
