few options here ( easiest is to use a cd in-car converter ) tho this is how to say it ? a bit crap really u need to look at a signal line somewhere in your system, into the amp or into head unit

and to the guy who asked me i use desktop parts ( i can get a desktop so small it can fit ENTIRELY in an A4 box file, to it takes use of mobos with all in capabilities)

only a mains connection is required

np, hope i have been of some use if u only have one inch look into old laptops ( they have the disadvantage of being custom) but they are samll
there are other things that you could do
1) raise the seat ( easy to do in some cases but not always)
2) put it somewhere else in the car
3) go small and spend more money

your choice really!

( i will always go for the cheap option when i can, call me a cheapskate if u want, but why spend more than you need to ????)

PoD

any more questions that u think i mite be able to help with just ask

I don't know what to do to install a car PC into my car, but I do know that a main PC system and a monitor (preferably in-dash/lcd) is needed, but thats about all I know. I have an 04 Accord Coupe and about $425 to spend...

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks for the time to read this.

If you don't have any experience doing PC builds or car audio builds, then I'd suggest finding a pro to do it.
That will cost you a lot more than $425, no matter what your ride is.

Realistically, unless you've got spare PC parts lying around you're not going to get much of a auto PC for $425.

will an Opus 90 power an old Dell desktop PIII 550? That's what I am considering basing my carputer on. Looking for something cheaper than the Opus 150 if I can, plus the Opus 90 is more readily available...

i dont think 425 is enough money

a good carputer runs around 1000, if you want gps and everything. Screens themselves that are in dash run around 700 retail, though people sell them here if you look at some posts for 400 or whatever.

A better question is: Does the Dell use the Dell power conecter (propriatary) or the standard ATX connector? Likely it is a dell specific PS meaning a stadard PS will not work and may actually let the magic smoke out of the board/CPU.... No smoke and the thing does not work.

I was wrong, it's not a Dell -- thinking about the wrong box. The box I am going to use is a standard MB and powersupply.

I found a calculator on the web for power requirements, looks like the Opus 90 will work...
