I don't know, I've never looked for one... just find a really cheap enclosure and tear that apart for the IDE to Firewire bridge or maybe not [that's always been my solution (in my head at least because it's inexpensive)]. I don't know check the prices, go for whatever is cheaper I'd say. Good luck.

The IDE to USB adapter cable I was going to order is the one mentioned in this thread.

Don't think I'll bother!

So what are people using to have the DVD drive down the front and PC in the back of the car?

There have been mixed reports with IDE cables (80-pin).
The IDE to USB Drive I found seems to have caused the majority probs.

I've only found IDE to firewire enclosures that are more expensive...

BTW the Imoega USB external CDRW/DVD are huge!!

I honestly don't think you will run in to bandwidth problems. Maybe if you hooked up a bunch of HDDs to the same USB port but I imagine most people will be running one HDD. I would just assign one USB port to your HDD and the rest to the other, assuming that your motherboard only has two ports.

Finally yesterday i solved my "DVD in the Glovebox" problem. It gave me so much headaches. I was really frustrated about all the USB stuff. What i did was get a External Firewire DVD player and i finally could say goodbye to all the problems. So i need to run a USB Extension and a FireWire Extension to my glovebox for my TouchScreen and My DVD.

The main problem what i experienced with USB was initialization problems after reboot or hibernate etc.

Now i only need to find a SlimLine FireWire DVD Enclosure for in my glovebox. So if anyone has a spare MaPower MAP-KC51SC1G for sale please let me know.

I've got a Dell slim notebook drive mounted in my dash, with an ATAPI to IDE converter and then IDE to USB adapter. I bought a 16 foot USB cable that runs to my CarPC in the trunk. Works great.

Remember that DVD drives are NOT ATA133, they're ATA66 at most. And the bandwidth needed for playing DVDs is relatively small, so USB shouldn't be a problem.

i just ordered a slimline Pioneer SlotIn drive in a firewire + USB enclosure on Ebay. I borrowed a large firewire drive to test my system and all my DVD problems vanished immediatly. No i hope that my new drive works just as good.
