Oh ya and I also wanted to mention why I named this form "My Tips for Beginners"
was to direct new users to ideas which are the best quality with the least expense. These options are in reach of any average person, and will result in a highquality final product which integrates sucessfully and allows for many more additions however the user sees fit.

Hmmm...So youve explored every possible option right. You know everything there is to know about the 'MP3car scene'? Am I taking this wrong or did you directly say that you know everything from experience you have had? let's see where I will start asking questions...have you put a DVD player in your car....Used a CRT...and an LCD character, graphic, full color? Have you TRIED a DC-DC converter...I mean ylu personally for every question I have asked. I dont want to hear about what you have read on other peoples sites. I want to here about how you have personally tried every possible option and came with the fact that your way is the best...isnt that how you put it?
The whole point of doing it yourself is to do it however you d*mn well please. then if you choose to tell people about what you did, I have a suggestion: Try the 'This is what I did' approach rather than the 'Here is my way to do it and naturally its the best so you better do it this way too' approach.
And as for creating this Topic for your opinions: If you don't want people to reply and to rebute what you might say..Put it on a webpage. Period. If you dont want people to contradict you ore expresse there opinions what ever made you think a 'Disscussion Board' was the place to do it...(note that word Discussion)

tips for beginners hey....
1) go for a cd changer with aux input capability, kenwood and blapunkt both have an adaptor cable that plugs into the cd changer bus socket. pioneer also have an adaptor one like the kenwood(but in a box) and one that lets you use a stacker as well.
2) go for an at style motherboard much easier to get a dc-dc converter for. i got a baby atx m/b and am having too much trouble getting the maxim chips i need here in australia.. but when i get it going will post on mp3car.com, see if i cant sell a few!!!
3) have fun with it!!!thats the whole idea isnt it???
4) btw does anyone know where i can get a ca-c1ax adaptor? thats the kenwood one,or a cd-rb10 (i think) that is the one for the pioneer deck?????

Well to put it simply Yes I have done everything.
As for a DC-DC Powersupply I have not mentioned anything about it in previous posts. As for a DVD I have one in my home computer, which I control with my IRman, its no different if you put it in your car PC. Also I have a 4" TFT Full colour LCD and a 20x4char lcd. my TFT uses RCA Output, I could have purchased a new/used video card with this feature, but because I want to use 3dfx for vis plugins I picked up a vga2rca converter.
the only reason I'm not using dc-dc is
a) they are rediculously high in price
b) I already had an inverter
c) then I don't have to remove the power supply in my pc, meaning I wouldn't be able to use it in my house or for any other application.
d) and I wired an accessories adapter port in my trunk so the inverter is not hanging out of my dash cig ligher, also meaning that people can't light thier cigarettes.
on the other hand, I could spent $100 for a dc-dc power supply thats only worth maximum of $10. Then I wouldn't be able to use my PC in my house without putting the regular power supply back in.

Oh I get it now...You have done everything. Escept those things which you think are point less. And as for DC-DC costing $100 your sadly mistaken. I bought my DC-DC power supply for $15 plus $3 shipping. Have you tried putting you sytem in a custom case? Have you tried Using and MP# decoding board? This list can go on and on. You have not and never will try every option there is for an in-car MP3 system. Dont even try to say you have. Try rephrsing it in something like this method: 'From the research I have done and from information from other sources about things I have not tried, my opinion is this is the best way'.

Sorry about that last post, I have a headache.
Anyway What I just want to point out one more time. If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't post anything. Thanks.
My knowledge is to be respected, I have accumulated information on every aspect of this project, and with my information I have gathered that is how I know what is best for my project. That is also why I created this forum to help other people save time and money by simply using certain items that can get the job done.
Anyway, Enough of this, don't post unless its positive and may help someone, or come to irc efnet #mp3car and debate the ideas further, not here. Thanks

I have to agree with most of what alien8 is saying.. to buy a DC-DC power supply is a waste of money.. just get an inverter... who cares if you're going dc-ac-dc?? It works, and its efficient.. if you wanna be cool and make you're own.. fine.. thats up to you..
As for a tape adapter.. even if you have a really high quality deck and tape adapter, there is still that damn hiss that comes outa your tweeters.. if you want a really good quality sound then get a head deck with AUX input.. in my system you can't tell the difference between CD's and the MP3's..
As for not using a network card.. It is faster if you have a disk caddy.. but there's nothing wrong with network cards..

If someone wants to debate an idea I would say a disscussion board would be a relatively good place to start. And heres and exact quote from you 'B) Becuase I have experience trying all methods.' That doesnt even begin to hint at you have research all methods. it blatantly says youve tried them all. And as for me being a lying son of a *****, goto www.mpja.com and look for it in there catalog. And also check the other topics in this forum about the 'Laptop Power Supply' that ive started

I'm not sure how seriously I would take someone who thinks that 100 feet of UTP CAT-5 sells for $150 CDN-$, or that a 200 dics changer is $1000. Tell you what. I'll sell you a hundred foot CAT-5 cable with RJ-45 connectors for $50-USD any day of the week, since that works out to about a 300% profit, even more if I made the cable myself.

Personally, I think Alien8 is so stuck up hi own arse that he has no idea what he's talking about.
How can you proclaim to be an 'expert' and have tried everything?
You spout all this cr*p about 'tape sampling' and sound-cards when I think you have not the faintest idea.
Use HTML - it is *much* faster than Frontpage, will not get as much wrong, and your pages will come out at half the K size.
You say all other systems are 'ghettos' but you have an inverter which will create heat and a lot of mains hum at 50 or 60Hz which you will have to filter out. You will also have more larger boxes on the boot for the PSU and inverter - hardly professional.
And as for knocking the tape converter they are actuallt quite good quality considering. It it mostly the tape itself which has the frequency limitations, so if you use the cassette converter unit, there is no tape involved it is simply head-to-head.
You have fitted an FM Modulator which is the WORST possible method you could think of. You will have lots of noise and the frequency range will be even worse. You will have modulation noise and then de-modulation noise as the it is converted etc..
You will pick up engine noise and other cr*p.
As for ethernet - no problem there. How many times do you want to copy 10MBytes in one go? I Don't know anyone with removable hard-drives. There is simply no need as there is other means of swapping giles eg. Zip Drive?
If the unit is to be made to look professional, the last thing you want to do is have to remove the hard-drive.
And what about shock-protection? You have not mentioned that? How will a removable caddy offer any protection at all?
The idea of the MP3 car project is so people can use any parts they have and build quite a nice unit. Does it have to be a Ghetto simply because they didn't buy brand-new units?
You have not mentioned software in your website either. For someone who has been thinking for a year on this project, you think *mighty slow boy*!

I agree with Mp3Ford
This discussion is over with. Alien8 made a couple of good points. He might have ofended some of your ideas. I personally am going to use a hard drive caddy and I am going to wire my box straight to the AMP. I am not using a network becuase I dont know how to use a network. I am going to wire it to the amp becuase, I dont need a new deck my deck is good enough.
All I am saying is that most of you should have gottn over this by now, this is getting real boring real fast
