Please help install a Front End

Okay, I am very new to this carputer business. I got into it after I stumbled into this forum while back and I have been trying to read as much as possible. There is a wealth of information in here. Thanks to all who are willing to share. Meanwhile, I have installed a carputer in my car. Here is my setup:

EPIA-V 1 GHz
XP Home SP2
512 Meg RAM
60 Gig 2.5 inch HD
60 Watt PS
ITPS
7 inch TS Lilliput
2004 Routis GPS and receiver
Linksys Wireless
Backup Camera
4 port powered USB hub

Screen and hub power are directly taken from the 60W PS rails and it seems to be doing just fine.

Now to the issues I have:

I have unsuccessfully been trying to install one of the front ends that have so generously been made available on this site. I have downloaded and installed just about every single one but none is working properly for me and I am not sure what to do to fix the issues. I am not technical when it gets to software and am totally dependent on documentations so have no clue how to fix things when adjustments are needed.

For Example, I installed Frodo player, but it the screen goes to the bottom of the display and a major part of it gets missing. If I right click on the task bar and lock/or unlock it, the screen jumps up enough where the “exit” button can be seen and I can navigate back, but then it moves down again.. I changed the skin to 800x600 but it does the same thing still. Don’t know how to fix it.

I also installed media car and then tried to install remedia car on top of it. It just will not work for me. I am sure I am doing something wrong, or not doing something at all but don’t know what it is! I am not even sure how to install remedia car properly. Readme text file does not say anything about where to place the files. So I have just unpacked them but I think I need to do more!

Tried Cetrafuse, media engine, Autotouch, etc. each with there own set of issues, or rather issues that are as the result of my lack of knowledge.

Is there documentation on any of the good front ends that someone with my very limited knowledge could use to install from start to end?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The point is that almost every question has been answered on this forum, but the problem is that there are so many posts here you proberly can't find what you're looking for. That can be extremely frustrating! Aspecialy when you just need some quick answer to your problem.

Maybe it's a good idea to add a chatbox to this forum so you can ask directly to others who are around about you're problems.

Maybe we can help out each other a bit quicker this way!

So who's in for a chat???

Btw, I'm in love with you're avatar!!

I agree. There is a wealth of info here with a bunch of good people and I am amazed at how the newbies get helped out all the time by others. But unfortunately when it comes to software issues, there is no structure to guide someone with my limited knowledge to look for the right answers on their own and that puts even a bigger burden on the rest. But still a great site though and I have learned so much from it.

A chat line would be great.

I like my avatar too!

For Frodo player look in the installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\Frodoplayer) for this file FrodoPlayer.ini and at about 20 lines from the bottom look for this part
Code:
[ADVANCED] ADV_TOP=0 ADV_LEFT=0 ADV_WIDTH=640 ADV_HEIGHT=480

Where top and left = 0 => Top Left corner of the the screen.
Similarly With and height.

If you need help regarding to the front end, go to the subforum of that particular font end and search for the topic, but usually they are in the sticky posts.
If you are looking for documentation, most (or all) don't have one.

ADV_WIDTH=640
ADV_HEIGHT=480

to

ADV_WIDTH=800
ADV_HEIGHT=600

to fit my screen?
