Package Deal? For the whole thing?
Hi,
I just saw this guy's hookup and WOW! I was impressed....
http://www.acurainspired.com/gallery...25984&uuid=651
Is there a package deal that I can purchase that includes everything I would need for this mod? I have an in-dash dvd player with an axillary in for audio and video. I also have 2 amps and sub and 4 aft mkt speakers.
So, now what do I need... I want to play mp3 music with the geiss/milkdrop visualization in my car... I need a wireless adapter so I can pull into my garage and download music via my wireless router. I also, need a hard drive of at least 60 gb or something if I want to throw music videos/porn lol.. on there.
Such a cool idea!
Please let me, the newb, know what I need.
Think simple, affordable, efficient, and effective.

Your indash probably only has rca inputs, which dont look the greatest for pc applications. If you like the indash pull out screens, that is an option you can see on here. You will still need to build a small pc. Careful with playing porn in the car, you can get yourself in a bit of trouble with that. Illegal in most areas.

You know, after reading a couple of posts... Who cares if this question is asked again? We are in the newbie section and why don't you just answer it if you know?
At least this way the answer would be a current one instead of trying to search for variations of my question and finding variations of aswers.
If someone asked me about saltwater fish... I would smile and gladly let them know what I think... I wouldn't say... use the search button or here let me transfer you to a different department.
I should be able to tell you what I'm trying to do and what equipment I already have and get some good feedback if you are an enthusiast.
Anyways... All I really wanted to do was Play Music video's and View some really cool winamp visualizations...
Then maybe even play a computer game on long road trips, but probably not if it's a pain in the arse...
I guess, I need a pentium 3, a 60gb hdd, a great soundcard to go through my processor/amps, a nice 3d vid card, cd/dvd rom, wireless adapter, and wireless mouse and keyboard.
Do they make soundcards with fiber optic out? If so, my processor has the input for it... yay! I guess my vid card will have to have a composite vid out too. Any thoughts?
I also, have a 1 farad capacitor... I know nothing about power supplies for computer's only that most things for cars utilize 12v... and that the voltage spikes in a car... maybe a cap helps? Plz tell me what I need...
Thanks,
Jeremy

You need a SCREEN, some kind of CONTROLER, and a COMPUTER. Just read the damn forums and quit being stroppy, I doubt anyone here is going to hand you the answer on a plate, especialy with that attitude!
You could do whats on that video with a lillioput touch screen and a laptop running of a cig lighter -> laptop adaptor.

And if you'd SEARCH the forums and READ the results, you'd know that the composite output to your headunit screen is likely to look crappy.
Why do we care if the question has been posted umpteen times?
what's the point of having information available if nobody's going to even look at it?

i have to agree on the quality on that clarion gonna be crappy for text on a carputer. i had a clarion 745vd touchscreen 7 inch and i couldnt see a damn thing!!! i just took it out and bought a lilliput 8 inch in there. the resolution is ALOT better than the clarion. buy yourself a vga monitor with a small pc. after you do that youll realize theres nothing you cant do with a car computer! take the headunit out and go with a quality vga. im pretty sure the money you get from your clarion will fund an entire carputer project! also remember you can add gps with a carputer for a few extra dollars (under 100) clarion wont come out with a gps unit for their flip outs for a while. ive looked!

Maybe the average newbie doesn't want to take the time to gather the wisdom without inquiry... That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I would be reading for hours and then I would still feel unsure unless the question and answers were the same, not to mention up to date.

Oh screw it,
Would it sound good anyway?
Better than my clarion head unit?
One guy told me today that the carputer won't sound good at all compared to a head unit.

doc what type of vehicle are you putting it in? also try to sell your clarion on here. the resolution on the clarion is between 400 k to 500k pixels. the vga resolution is almost 1.15 million pixels. the only flipout headunit with that kind of resolution is the alpine d901. its a hell of alot money too. i think you should get you a 7 inch or 8 inch touchscreen and computer and you can store thousands and thousands of mp3 files. youll never need a cd in your car again!!! just get a regular headunit with aux input and hide it somewhere in the car that you can access easily.i got my pioneer for under 100 bucks. it sounds real good. hook up the pc to the aux input and ur ready to go. do some more searching and youll see!

thats just my opinion tho. i watched the video link you have. you can use it on your clarion try using a program like media engine. if you need a composite out i have a video scan converter VGA TO RCA N SVIDEO for sale if your interested. if you dont want to get rid of your clarion. but go with vga my opinion...but you CAN do it without a vga monitor!

I haven't installed the clarion yet but I was going to... hmmm..
oh yeah, I have a 2000 acura tl.
So what you are saying about the video is that the milkdrop visualization won't look good on my 336,900 pixel touchscreen?
but I can make it work with a vga to rca adapter?
