mounting my Shuttle carputer

I am almost done with the install of my car pc, I just have to fix the USB touchscreen on my Lilliput and mount the Shuttle case (WD 80 gig HD). Temporily I had it in a cardboard box with a piece of foam around the bottom of the case but I want to mount in nicely in my trunk somewhere. I have searched some and many people say it will be fine mounting it straight to the car but I think my suspension is fairly hard. I have a 98 Maxima with D2 coilovers and 18" wheels. Any sugestions on how to mount the case would be great. Thanks.

Your hard drive is the most vulnerable from vibration and potholes. Western digital drives (some of them) have rubber casings, some nice cases have rubber bushing hard drive screws, but honestly I would find a DIY way to protect your hard disk or just keep a good bakup of all the data on it so if you destroy it you can just ghost a new one with little time lost.

What you could do as well would be to bolt on 90 degree angle brackets to each corner of the top of case. Then attach small shock absorbers that are used for RC trucks like the "TMAXX". Then mount the other end of the shocks to a location in your trunk. Use a very soft set of the shocks that are oil dampened and one can change the dampening and rebound using different oils inside the shocks.

This approach will allow a floating suspension for your car pc.

I already have all my movies, music and files on my main computer so losing the data is not really a problem. I just didnt want to end up wasting a harddrive but I guess I will just try it and see what happens. Thanks.
