Is that the one with the oval dash? Or the Squarish dash? If so you need a pair of 'ford keys' to remove the dash piece.

The 2000 Ford Taurus needs the use of two U-shaped metal keys. You should be able to find these at Walmart, AutoZone, BestBuy, or similiar places. Just ask for "Ford stereo keys" Should cost less than five bucks.

Derek

PS. A great source of information for Taurus owner's is the Taurus Car Club of America. My username there is also d_sellers1 and I am also a 2000 Taurus owner. I have a few posts talking about the carput and two other users there are doing the same.

EDIT: Autozone part#: AW-FDRT $3.99

Primarily because it includes the switches to control the AC and stuff and also includes the wiring to run from the dash all the way to be RCU (under the antenna in the truck). The RCU is the real brains of the stereo and has the amp. The dash up front is nothing more than a cassette/CD deck and buttons (and the AC controls). All the amplification and processing happens in the back.

Cheapest place for the kit is BestBuy (per Pricegrabber.com). I just bought my second for when I install the screen. Be careful because the locking tabs on the inside are weak and can easily break.

It's the same one that I have. Think it is $69.99 with free shipping.

Go here to see pics of someone taking a stereo out of a GenI Taurus. (same concept and tools apply).

Some info if you're gonna put a carput in the trunk: There is a connector which I believe is for a stock CD changer near the RCU. It has four wires with the following pin-out.
Code:
Red/Yellow - Constant 12V+ Purple/Black - ACC 12V+ Red/Gray - ???

Gray connector and the far left.

A pic of my modified BMW CAI.

Don't forget to factor in gas, mileage, and wear and tear on your car. Plus you'll probably end up wanting to buy more stuff why you get up in there. BestBuy is a bad store for me to wander into after payday. That's why I usually do it when I don't have much money left. Sears is the same way. Tons of tools to buy and so little money.

It's because of the wiring harness, the antenna extension, the defrost switch in the kit, and the EL they put in the kit to replace the dashlights.
