A few introductory questions
Hello guys,
I have a few newbie questions of my own, having searched but just not found the right info I need - I see the wonderful array of smilies to the right so I can imagine you guys will keep me right on the regular asked questions
1: How do most people handle power up/power down? I would prefer to have this controlled via my alarm system so that the PC boots when I open the car, but is manual to power down.
2: I have reviewed the Media Center software and recon I will proceed with this - can anyone give me some thoughts on the GPS part of the software, does this work in Europe?
3: Lastly, and thanks for bearing with me! I see that Media Center can be programmed for a remote - are there any real benefits to this over the simple looking touch screen?
Cheers in advance guys!
Mark

1: Cheers, I will review those now!
2: Sorry mate - I meant http://www.mediaengine.org/ but if there is better s/w I am all ears
3: Ah, that explains it. I am going for touch screen also but could not work out why a remote would be needed also. All clear now.
4: Looked at the FAQ and already searched, I just wanted to get soem introductory advice before delving deeper - this is all new to me.
Thanks for your help, any other advice greatly aprpeciated.
Cheers
Mark

1. Media center is kind of a dead project. Look into Road Runner - based on the same principal and very similar only much more recent and better overall.
2. You say you have searched and did not find the answer to power up / power down questions???????? My friend, you've got to improve your searching skills - there is no topic covered more thoroughly on this board than that one.
3. Touch screen is the way to go. You'll be surprised at how seemlessly you can integrate a pc into your car w/ a touch screen interface.
4. First thing to do is visit the FAQ emporium and run down the list.
5. Welcome to the forums, best of luck

Have you considered Centrafuse? It's an awesome bit of software with plenty of support for MP3, video, GPS, radio etc. It's also going to be updated to v1.3 very soon with loads of improvements...
Worth a look I think...

Yes I did mean mediacar, I read it wrong, Oh well, better to be a fool than ignorant.
I took it like he was talking about MediaCar because it didn't say Mobile Media center or Neo Carmedia Center.
