Sounds about right. You have to avoid the colors that look like traffic signals, or emergency lights. But if this isn't related to putting a computer in your car, I really don't see how its related.

Why don't you contact your local law enforcement agency or lawmaker? They are the authority ont he law and why it is in place.
We're a bunch of geeks putting computers in cars.
Asking your questions to the right people yields immeasurable results.

i got ticket for blue lights a while back and did some research b4 going to court i have the blue limo lights Coach lights there called on the sides of my van see my cardomain site theres a pic in sig.
basically the law states
Colored and flashing lights. The provisions of this subdivision
shall govern the affixing and display of lights on vehicles, other than
those lights required by law. 1. No light, other than a white light, and
no revolving, rotating, flashing, oscillating or constantly moving white
light shall be affixed to, or displayed on any vehicle except as
prescribed herein
then it goes on to state each colored light and its apllications for example
3. Amber lights. a. One or more amber lights may be affixed to a
hazard vehicle, and such a light or lights which display an amber light
visible to all approaching traffic under normal atmospheric conditions
from a distance of five hundred feet from such vehicle shall be
displayed on a hazard vehicle when such vehicle is engaged in a
hazardous operation.
AND
Blue light. One blue light may be affixed to any motor vehicle
owned by a volunteer member of a fire department or on a motor vehicle
owned by a member of such person's family residing in the same household
or by a business enterprise in which such person has a proprietary
interest or by which he or she is employed, provided such volunteer
firefighter has been authorized in writing to so affix a blue light by
the chief of the fire department or company of which he or she is a
member, which authorization shall be subject to revocation at any time
by the chief who issued the same or his or her successor in office. Such
blue light may be displayed exclusively by such volunteer firefighter on
such a vehicle only when engaged in an emergency operation
NOw to me those descriptions sound like there reffering not to blue and amber lights as in ANY light because if i installed a amber running light oon a pickup that would b e illegal because im not engaged in hazardous operation?
my point is that as the law it self states it is governing Colored and flashing lights. not just colored lights but ones that are colored and flashing. i think the state dept here in ny is desperate for money and there for is picking on people for customizing thier vehicle NOTE A cool cop will nt give you a ticket for this ive had my blue limo lights on my van for 4 plus years and recived this ticket after having them on my van for about 2 years i havennt removed or changed them since
this is a bit of a rant and a bit off topic and thought id mention my defence didnt hold up in court either but i think if i were a lawyer the judge would have heard me much more than he did END RANT
by the way if your seedoo is considered a motorvehicle in ny state then worse case scenario you now have a defence

Let me give you a small lesson in law construction.
Look at the commas in that statement of the law. First, NO Light (so basically, no lights), other then a white light (this modifies the first part of the sentance, So, white light is allowed, all others are not), then, you should remove the small sentance fragment between the commas, then continue reading, so you get, No light, and no revolving, rotating etc white light. So basically, no other color then white is allowed, AND even if you have white, it can't rotate or flash etc...
Then, the other laws are exceptions to the general rule. So, if you are a volunteer FF, then you can have a blue light. If you do construction, you can have yellow, blah blah blah.

yes my arguement was the paragraph begins with the sentance colored and flashing lights... if you read all of the sub paragraphs they go into lights of other vehicles (ambulance FF police construction) and is it irony that each of these so called lights refers to a light that not only is colored but is flashing as well.
ambulance has flashing red lights
construction have flashing amber on the top
police red and blue flashing
and ff blue but flashing!
my case was based solely on that the law seemed to have been written to forbid impersonating and officer type distractions if a solid blue light on the side of my vehicle is that much of a distraction then drive somewhere else

I install cold cathodes in many kiddos cars because they think its cool, and I cant argue with them, when done clean, it looks descent. But I always have a quick-kill switch so they can turn all off, at once so local law enforcement dont see em.
Basically neons are illegal, anyway you slice it, and white lights suck, unless your interior is completly black. Or you could get some tinted glass and mount the white light inside the tinted box to give off the color you wanted while not breaking the law... I guess?

Reminds me of when the police stopped me because I had neons on my scooter. Some people thought it was on fire(not joking) the light was orange, and the scooter made a freaking lots of noise(you could hear it 1km away).

No it is not irony. They mention that because in New York they require movement of emergency lights. This is in stark contrast to California which requires at least a single, steady burn red light on all emergency vehicles.
That is why the first sentence of the first paragraph limits using any light, other then white (even though not flashing), and ANY LIGHTS THAT FLASH
I won't even talk about your second statement cause that is just plain silly.
