Welcome. You have come to the right place. Wander over to the FAQ Emporium and check out the info there.

What car do you have?

Hi Bugbyte!

I've got a Laptop in my 04 Honda Element and Hardwired dc-dc computer in my 88 Cherokee.

I would like them (computers) to shutdown when I shut off the engine(s) and start-up when I turn the key in the ignition. Sometimes I'd like the computers to remain on but the engine off.

I think a SDC would help? But not sure how or what to buy or implement. Gonna have to read and search.

Thx, Phil

An SDC sounds like what you need. When you say "hard wired", you mean there's a regulator in line with the power supply, right?

Hey Bugbyte,

The Jeep's computer uses a special dc-dc atx pwr supply. Upon sensing 12v it will turn on. There's prolly a regulator built-in.

Does the SDC powerdown a computer (using software) like this: Hit Start button - Hit Shutdown. To shut off so the HD isn't corrupted?

Thx, Phil

As long as your motherboard is ACPI compliant, the SDC will do that. Head over to the mp3car.com store and check them out.
