Aussie Magna - Project Help

Hi everyone im from Australian Magna Forums (Does any country besides Australia even have magna's? I think the us might but tey are diamontes)
anyway we are all trying to catch up to all the other countries in technology by strating carputers (people still think mp3 is a new invention over here anyway i ahve been reading around here for a bit and im trying to understand whats happening so i thought i might post here to make sure i have the right idea for everything

My Carputa System (when i actually do it, these are just plans)

P3 450
256mb RAM
80gb HD
DVD reader
GPS
Wireless network card
4.1 Channel sound card

My Audio setup
No head unit
Front splits
Sub
No rear speakers

Basically im running the sub and front splits off the amp.

This is the bit im not 100% sure about

Im planning on running windows xp media edition on this computer. Have the dvd drive mounted in the glove box running on a USB 2.0 massive extension cable (i have a pci usb thing lined up) so that i can change cds while im on the go. From what i understand you run the screen to your computer via a Svideo cable? (im not doing touch screen mouse seems the better option for me) And the audio goes from each channel in the sound card to them amp, is this correct? what type of cable should i be using?

Finally GPS, i know you buy one of those gps thingsa you plug into your computer, where do you get GPS software from (remember im in australia) or do you just 'get it' from 'other people' ha ha

Thanks for reading my essay!

The video goes from your computer to your screen via a VGA cable. Whats a VGA cable you ask? well look at the back of your monitor now and there should be two cables. Ones a power cable, the other is a VGA cable. Follow it back to the comp and see what plug it is, Thats a VGA cable and thats what youll be using.

For the cable for the audio, you want a 3.5mm to 2 rcas, go to the back of your comp again and find the sound card or onboard sound plugs. Chances are the cable coming out of this is a 3.5mm jack (same plug you have at the end of your headphones)
The other end should be 2 rca plugs, if not go buy yourself one of these cables, should cost like 5 bucks. So these 2 rcas hook straight up into your amp, simple!

see you over at aussiemagna

VGA is a much sharper picture. If you want to be able to read text, get a VGA screen.

On a slighty different topic, what year Magna? I believe the counterparts over here are the Mitsu Eclipse, Galant, Chrysler/Dodge Sebring/Stratus Coupes.

You have the 3.0 6G72 in that? There's not much here as far as performance. Like one turbo, one supercharger due to the horrendously difficult ecu. Any goodies down under? I know RPW does some stuff there. Wondering if there is anything else. I guess you guys get a AWD version now. So jealous.

see mynes a 94 era the newer ones come in 3.0 and 3.5 litre i dont know what their conterpart is but for my model its the diamante. The AWD's are pretty good but lose alot compared to many of the cars in its price range over here. How do you guys like you pontiac GTO's. The best car you will be getting from Australia!

VGA cables are pretty expensive and chunky, seems like its the only way though *sigh* This sounds dumb but im going to have a switch next to me steering wheel to turn the power going to the carputa off (same as turning the powerpoint off on your home computer) i was wondering how everyone turn their carputa on i cbf going all the way to the boot to press the button to turn the machine on!

Dude seriously, you have to spend some time and research, it will all become much clearer. Oh, BTW, Im in Australia and have had my MP3 collection going for the last 6 years or so, like most of my mates, so maybe it was just you who thought MP3 was a new invention.?
