Two questions....

I've looked all over this forum and havent been able to find any of the answers i need, so sorry if i repeating anything anyone else has written.

Firstly, does a gps receiver have to be installed on the dash under the windscreen? And secondly, I need some advice on where to mount a dvd drive. Im putting the carpc in the boot, and i dont really want to have to get out and open it every time a friend brings a cd into my car.

Thanks for any advice guys

No. I have a CompactFlash GPS receiver capable of using an external antenna. It's got a 19-ft. thin cable and is waterproof with a magnetic mount. I will mount it at the rear of the roof of my SUV, and then run the cable along the interior panels to the PC in the center console.

Lots of options.

1. anywhere that gets a clear view of the sky

2. most center consoles have somewhere you can hide one, if not, stick it in the glovebox

For the CD ROM Drive, I used a SLOT Load Laptop drive in a USB case. Simple, clean and easy to operate. I'd suggest a SLOT load drive for ease of use.

I stuck the drive in place with velcroe tape and below it is a big rubber stopper (found in the pull out drawers at lowes in the hardware isle with the screws)

For GPS check this thread out if you have not purchased one yet. Check to see if other manufacturers have the new SiRF Star III Chip out as well.
