Laptop and Alpine flip-out?

I have a Dell laptop with s-video out and I also have the docking station. I wired every thing up to the Alpine to see if it would work the right way before I hide all the wires. The audio worked fine but I couldn't seem to get video out of it no matter what I did. I have an s-video to rca converter, with the s-video side hooked up to the laptop and the rca side to the Alpine video in. I've even tried the lowest resolution but all I get is a black screen. I took the laptop in the house to try it on my tv and all I get is a Grey screen. Then I tried just the s-video to rca converter from my desktop to my tv just to make sure it wasn't a bad converter but I couldn.t seem to get the display configuration correct. I think I just don't know how to configure the display. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you using the right drivers? Sometimes the windows drivers don't provide a working TV-out.

Also, be sure to select TV-out on your laptop, I think if you hold the purple 'fn' button and press a function-key (F11 or something, it has the s-video logo in purple on it).

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply I looked for the s-video logo and only found the "crt/lcd" button and that didn't work either. If anyone has any other ideas please respond.

In windows, right click on the desktop and hit Properties. Then go to the 'Settings' tab, then the 'Advanced' button in the bottom right. You should see a tab that says 'Displays'. If it doesn't have a nice little page that lets you select TV or VGA out, you need to get the right drivers for your system. If the options are grayed out, hook it up to a TV or monitor and go into the 'Advanced' again and you should be able to turn it on.
