IDE adapter and cable orientation

alright so the title pretty much sums it up. I'm putting together my system but I've noticed that the IDE cable can connect two ways to the IDE adapter on the slim dvd/cd rom. does the tab that would normally allow it to only go one way fit up or down? Thanks guys.

Can you locate pin 1 on the adapter? If so, the edge fo the cable with the colored stripe (usually red) goes on that end.

as DarquePervert said, find pin 1 and match it up with the coloured stripe on the cable.
