2003 Honda Accord Radio/Climate control Question

I just purchased a 2003 Accord EX-L that has the 6 disc in dash changer with the dual climate control that displays the temp and fan speeds on a shared lcd screen with the radio.

I am looking to install a carputer and I could care less about the existing radio/changer, but I want to maintain the screen and climate controlls (even though the climate and radio are all one unit).

Has anybody effectively modded the unit to take up less space? Maybe so that it fits in place of the compartment that is located below the existing unit?

If i'm not being clear let me know and I'll try to find some pictures to show you.

Thank you,
Ian.

It can be done. I did my friend's car.....or you can install the monitor in the bottom compartment...but that's kinda low. Safer though! You can hide the screen. What setup are you going with?

I haven't decided on a system setup yet. All I know is that I want to have the screen high for ease of use. In your friends, were you able to use the changer or the Radio still? Do you have any pictures of what you did for the mod? I would love to see what someone else has done. I have an idea of what I want to do but I don't know if I'll be able to.

My idea is to move the controlls all the way down, both for the climate and for the radio, then have the screen just above the controlls. That will allow me to keep use of the screen, controlls and still be able to load cd's into the unit (the car will probably have to be in drive to get the shifter out of the way, but that's no big deal). I'm just not sure how modifiable the climate/radio unit is. Is the faceplate one big PCB? are the knobs attached directly to a PCB, or are they attached by wires that would provide easier relocation?

Thank you for your help!
Ian.

I don't have any pics on this computer. Do a search on this forum for honda accord...you'll find another guy that did the same thing. Actually, I got the idea from him.

Ok, I saw that thread before. From reading through it he did not have the dual climate so he didn't need the screen, then later on in the thread he ordered the dual control bezel and it came it but he hasn't posted any updated pictures. I'll reference that thread for more updates. Thanks. Ian.

At this point I'm trying to find pictures or a diagram of the 6cd changer/ climate control unit to see how easy it will be to mod. I don't want to take mine out to see first if someone has already taken pictures.

My ultimate plan is to mod my existing unit and move it down into the compartment below the existing unit and mount my screen in place. That would allow me to have the touchscreen in an easy to use place and still maintain the climate controll unit.
