Starting a new project, asking advice and rambling inside.

alright ive ordered the front din kits for my new 2006 SI. After im done mouting the screen ill have to have the complete dash dipped so itll look like brushed aluminum or carbon fiber. Im going for perfect damn that looks good feel, so im not going to skimp on anything. im more then likely going with a via eden Mobo for the fanless operation. and pretty much go from there. i know what i would like it to do and have been mappign everything out to make sure i get exactly what i need. i started testing out software front ends and realized each front end only works with certain programs and equipment etc. i was thinking of using either roadrunner, frodoplayer, or centrafuse. not sure which one is the best out of the three. ive just scratched the surface on reading into them so opinions would be awesome. Im starting to build everything now so im looking around pricing and ordering. i want to get everything 100% working on a test bench before i install anything in the car. one question is why is the 8" lilliput screen the same if not cheaper then the 7"? anyone know any other stores but the one on here? im looking for eden mobo's but im not sure if the one sold here has all the options ill need. im still finding antennas etc and not sure if ill need a pci for something yet? maybe someone can clue me in if i really need one or if i can go all usb. and before i get flamed, i do know how to use a search function, i actually write in php code so very familiar how a forum works inside and out, but at this moment i have no clue if im searching for all the right things. If im overlooking something or something i might forget someone slap me and tell me. thanks in advance.

Where is the 8" lilliput screen cheaper than the 7"? It may be because you're comparing the 7" touchscreen to the 8" monitor (no touchscreen). That sounds about right.

Opinions won't mean crap about software. Download them all and try them out on your desktop. They'll run just about the same, and you'll get a good idea of what you like and the flexibility each one offers.

There are TONS of stores (digitalww, logicsupply are two that come to mind) other than mp3car.com, but IMHO mp3car is one of the best, and the slight premium they charge is well worth it based on their return policy and just overall dealing with them.

Yes, you'll need PCI for something. If you don't right off the bat, you'll find a reason eventually. You probably can go all usb (I have 8 usb devices, one serial).

Oh, and your post is really hard to read because everything seems to run together. ADD seems to be rampant here, so only post a few ideas at a time, or more than likely not all your questions will be answered. OR number them so it's easy to keep track of what you've asked.

Welcome to mp3car, where no projects are ever 100% complete.

To answer the screen question:
I think it is cheaper because not as many people want it. (supply & demand). I bought an 8" touchscreen with great resolution for around $150. Too big. There was no way to fit it into my car. I guesstimated the size of the screen under the housing and was off by millimeters. My airvents, are too high, nd I have a major piece of metal below so a double din fits perfect, but nothing more. Because a 7" is basically the exact size of a double din, more people want it driving up the cost. I sold my 8" for $160 (yay, profit), and bought a 7" for $220. I miss the 8" but I know I couldn't have used it!

I think that is why, and yes both were touchscreens... and from Hong Kong.

ahh thanks for the replies. sorry touch of ADD myself, :P

i just tend to throw it all out there when my minds working. doesnt help i type fast.

as for the 7" vs 8" ill probably go with the 7" since it looks like itll be easier to make fit. the 7" i found for 250 all day long, and the 8" lilliput touch you can find for 199 lol. makes sense that the 7" would be higher in demand since its an easier fit.

for now im ordering everything to get it working out of the car. ill just deal with the software when i get there. thanks guys.
