Question Communicating w/ VW Instrument Cluster MFD?

I have a new 2006 VW GTI (US). The instrument cluster MFD works pretty well in radio mode, although I've noticed that while it displays the XM radio station, it doesn't display the song name. That, and making sure that the ID3 information displays properly in the instrument cluster are my main concerns.

Has anyone done work w/ late model VW's and the steering column controls/instrument luster display? I did some searches but most of the stuff looks like replacement of the head-unit type stuff.

Where's the best place to start as far as looking for information? Ideally, it'd be great if there was documentation and a way to simply reprogram/reflash whatever handles that stuff, but I don't know where to start (IE, is any of this accessible via VAGCOM?)
