Hello to all of you out there!
Had been thinking about putting a pc into my car for some time... going back and forth about it. Primarily because of the money but finally decided that it's a definite go! My craft is really good so i know i will not make it look like crap and i am cool with making big moves in the car...
Now i been looking around the forum and all but there are few questions i still have that would be nice to clarify...
I got a 2001 Honda Civic
My plan is to take out the radio and the pocket under it for the screen to fit.
Now i have been contemplating where to put a dvd burner? I have seen that some people put it under the screen so you have to like raise it up and have access to it. another option i have see is it goes next to the hand brake i kind of like that one more but i dunno, the one i have see sticks out and i want it flush (i'll take my console apart and see if i can get one all the way in there right now i have my doughts) so any suggestions as to where else to put it?
also another thing i been thinking more and more is what kind of mother board to run with? Full or mini? I don't think i want to jam the mini behind my dash it's hard to get to it if something is up... so i was thinking pretty much running full pc from my trunk.
Here comes another choice where exactly do i put it in the trunk? i don't want to just throw a box in there and call it done...
Also the MB of choice... is it cool if i get one with on board G-card... ? Is that enough to run the lcd or should i take an extra mile and get a good graphics card? if so what kind would you recommend, i mean it's only a 7"/8" screen so you don't need the best card out there...
Now few more hardware related questions...
PSU? I seen the PSU that's in the store on this site... is that the best? will it automatically turn on and off with ignition? Is there a way to have it be turned on manually and off automatically?
Like how does it work when it shuts it down? just cuts off power? or does it go through the whole windows shut down process...
CPU? which one you guys recommend? i don't need anything powerful in the car don't think i will play games while i drive... lol Pc will primarily be used for music and net... small stuff like that? I'll upgrade it in the future if i see a need.
Touch screen? anyone can point to a good one? i seen so many of them but which one is the best? and affordable of course.
GPS... I seen somewhere someone ask if you need subscription to it or any additional payments besides the chip. The answer was no is that true? all i need is a chip and i am ready to rock? (and proper software too...) Also i seen a lot of mods with gps and most people try to put it on the dash or in the back window... is it necessary to have it out? or can the satellite pick it up if it's in the trunk somewhere?
Audio... this is like almost the whole reason i am building one ... is audio... I want to run with an audigy card... my question is i never delt with car audio systems before in my life... know pretty much nothing about it... besides the card i would assume i need a good amp...? which one would you suggest?
Right now i have stock speakers in the car but after i get the pc done will starts saving up for speakers and all that stuff... what should i run with ?
Radio??
I know i am like throwing the tape deck and radio out but is there i way i can still get radio in my car?
And last one for now...
sorry that I ask too much but i figure if i am going to invest money into something i need to know everything i can about it...
I am planning on installing some lights inside and outside once the time and more important money comes... is there a way i can run and control it through the pc? so i can turn them on and off make them move to the beat? outside and inside? Serial port? how?
P.S. before i forget... Air flow? i mean i live in i would say a nice climate... but if gets hot as balls over here in the summer on the sun... I don't want to have a complete melt down of my pc... how do i prevent that? Best place for a pc would be where? how many fans?
