win2000 cant do anything
I bought these compaq ipaqs 500mhz destops loaded with win2000. They were use in a campus environment. They boot up and log into windows and all I can do is click on icons on the desktop. Cant load off a cd,cant right click,or use the task bar.
I tried reloading windows 2000 that doesnt work either because it wont allow a reinstall. I could go into bios and hope I can format the disk. I hate to load win2000 even though its only 3pc's.

or get one of those 2.5 to 3.5 HDD adapters, or 2.5 to usb or whatever, and format the drive and re-install that way, I dont see why you cant just boot off the CD and re-install reguarly though. I'd suggest imaging the drive to your desktop incase something gets mangled, you can at least re-image it back.

blow out the admin password, login to admin and do what you need to do that way. Not sure exactly where to find it but goole for it. you make a boot up floppy with some type of linux application that does it. something like this. ive used something similar nt sure if this is it. http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm

I've never heard of erd commander (or now winternals admin pak) being able to remove or show the admin password. I've got the admin pack on one of my machines, could you explain where the function is to do this?
Also the linux program that was being mentioned is astrumi, and that can be downloaded here http://cyti.latgola.lv/ruuni/index_en.html

If its yours and you have physical control on it there is no way any password could stop you.
First, try the reset password thing previously mentioned. That tool doesn't work on XP, but it should work on 2000 (used it many times myself).
2nd, if you cant get to the bios, all you have to do is pull out the bios reset jumper on the motherboard and you have access to the bios to boot from cd.
Then a windows 2000 install cd should reformat everything. If it doesnt you could wipe your hard disk clean with a copy of knoppix (google it, its linux that runs from a cd) and use the terminal command:
sudo dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/hd0
As far as password retrival, I have used l0phtcrack in the past to find windows passwords. It found my dads password of eismc2 after only 3 hours on a 233 mhz computer.
hope that helps.
