Great attitude. Thanks.
Do you compete in IASCA at all?

will be at finals this year at NOPI nationals. Very active in USACi. Unfortunately IASCA seems to have forgotten about the rest of the country, else I'd be more active.
You?

You?
I used to compete IASCA SQ Street Pro-Class (before they had a Semi-Pro Class), sub 600W division. The last few years I haven't had a ride that I wanted to focus on stereo with, and my harmon/kardon system has been 'adequate' (barely adequate). I ran a McIntosh 20bit HU and had a very nice set-up previously. Now with the sound quality capabilites of the PC (which is why I started looking into this in the first place; GPS and the other stuff is all perks), I was considering going back, SQ still, semi-Pro sub 1000W class. I haven't looked into USACi yet, but I am going to. You are right that USACi has a bigger nationwide influence.

Okay guys, throw me a bone here please. I've checked Mini-ITX.com, the Via.com.tw website, and pretty much every place I could find and I can't find anything that says that the Via MII 10000 uses a 478pin socket for the processor, or whether or not my Pentium 4 M will work with it. I did find on the Via.com.tw website that the chip used on that board is a 35mm board (which is just under 1.5"), and I measured my chip and it's also just under 1.5", so I'd assume that it would be the same, but I still can't tell for sure.
Little help?

if you see in the specs it uses a via C3 chip it has a built on processor. Im positve the board you just mentioned has a built in processor. what your looking for is a mother board that has a socket for the pentium m chips. just with a quick itx pentium m search i came up with a DFI G5M150-N Pentium M Mini-ITX Board.. in the store heres a list of the pentium m compatible boards.

Built in, meaning no socket. Gotchya. I'll just sell my Pentium 4 then.

No, like I mentioned earlier I had started collecting all the parts 2 months ago. I bought the motherboard just on Monday, and it hadn't come yet. Then I found the VoomPC kit and I bought it yesterday because I didn't like my case and I only had a 90w power supply (the new one comes with M2 ATX at 160w). The motherboard is also better than the one I had so overall it's a stronger set-up. When I get the first mobo I ordered (which should be any day now) my cousin is going to buy it from me along with the case and the M1 ATX.
I didn't even realize that I couldn't use the P4M until Red GTi VR6 mentioned it!
I'm sure the 1Ghz processor on the MII 10000 is plenty fast for what I'm going to be doing with it.

The MII10000 will be plenty fast.
I'm using the MII12000 for mine and it's plenty fast for GPS & MP3 play back.
It lags a bit when you try and load up a play list of about 20,000 songs, but that's not that bad even.
Good luck! Hoping to see you in the lanes!

That's good to hear.
Thanks! Just gotta finish gutting my car and re-building it from the ground up. I'll be there in no time!!

I LITERALLY saw my first mini ITX board a couple weeks ago when I got my first one.
You need to understand that miniITX is JUST A FORMFACTOR. It emans nothing about what CPUs can be used.
If there is a miniITX motherboard that will accept a P4M, then yes. If there's not a miniITX board that is compatible with that CPU, then no.
For your specific scenario, there are miniITX boards that may support that CPU. Check in teh store here. If the answer isnt' clear, I'd consult the store staff so they can answer your questions.

The guy is a computer newbie, which isn't exactly the best thing to be if you want to put a computer in your car. Think about it.
As we all know, teh ability to research and make informed decisions about your project and what will work/won't work is necessary. What better way to make certain your research skills are up to snuff than figuring out if a particular CPU will work w/ a particular motherboard, eh?

Thanks Darque. I've learned a lot about Mini-ITX already just from this thread, getting hints, and then reading more sites on Mini-ITX.com and the Via.com.tw websites. The problem is (initially for me anyways) that when you are reading all those stats on the different sites, if you don't understand the terms to begin with then you're stuck.
Now I know what I need, and because I realized the P4M wouldn't work I bought that new VoomPC set-up with the better Mobo and faster Processor, better power supply, and nicer case. Now I just have to wait for it, drop in my memory and my hard drive, and get rollin.
I'm not so much a newbie on the software side, I just didn't have any experience with Mini-ITX. Now I've got my isht together and I'll be able to rock and roll.
I appreciate all your help , and I'll update this thread when said install is done!
P.S. - this actually upped my total output on this project to just under $725, but of course I have a higher-end system and it was still cheaper than buying everything put together and this system is going to kick arse!

UPDATE:
VoomPC kit delivered today. After actually putting it all together everything makes a lot more sense. I also read the Via EPIA MII 10000 manual in full. I am psyched about the 6-channel stereo out off the sound-card! That is going to kick *** once I get everthing installed.
Bummed about my IDE cord... doesn't fit the 2.5" HD so I have to get a 2.5"-to-IDE cable so that I can actually attach everthing! I had all my software and everything ready to go today too... oh well. One more friggin thing to friggin wait for from friggin UPS...
The Ampie case is wicked. I love it. Looks great, compact, and was very easy to put together. I'm going to add 2 more USB and run them out the back where the fan is, just so they are available. Between 4 USB and one Firewire I should have all my equipment covered.
Still bummed about the IDE cable... Thought I'd be rolling by tomorrow.
