what about hhd players???

Hi

I'm new in this forum and i found this of carputer really interesting, but the price of a carputer is to much for what i can get, cause i dont have gps, or xm radio, or sirius or any of that stuff in my country so the whole advantage of carputer is most for mp3 and videos.

Here is my question i found this hdd player and it seen really interesting cause you get all the capacity of a hdd and dont have to use a whole system, anyone have use one of this or what do you think about it, i'll use and in-dash lcd monitor with tv tunner to connet the hdd player.

What u mean u dont have GPS??? it works globally even if u live lets say north korea theres no freaking way to block it... Even if theres no electronic maps available your country u have two choiges for GPS, satellite pics like google earth, GE has some kind of coverage of whole globe. And theres also always possibility to use bitmap or scan map and use it as background map... i bet they have somekind of maps in your country too

Symon - you are correct, GPS only pinpoints your location. GPS used in conjunction with navigation software is what most of the people on this forum mean when they refer to GPS.

However, regarding your question, please see this thread:

Jeesus, nobody mentioned using gps without software... but software doesnt need to have routing capabilities to be useful. Software can be as simple as showing your location based on calibration on bitmap. And this is damn useful, ability to put yourself on map is what makes difference between getting lost and getting to destination. Sure routing info and having it with voice is cool... but thats just candywrapping, which simply isnt available in many corners of world. Red i really have to say i find your answer very newbish and ignorant.

Sir, if you have a problem with me, I'd suggest ignoring me.

Really simple really.

I'm commenting on it.

I don't know if you are intimidated by women or what your problem is, perhaps it's because I'm an American woman, who knows. It's becoming quite apparent that you have and issue with me. Rather than be childish about it why don't you grow up and speak to me about it directly.

correct.

What I'm seeing here is a language barrier.

This individual is apparently translating. S/he saw GPS and technically GPS is simle Global positioning, it's not navigation.

This individual, and justly so, sees no point to simply knowing where he is. Rather Navigation software utilizing GPS would be beneficial.

For someone who is having to translate, understanding that GPS is often used to refer to Navigation software is a bit of a hurdle.

I did no such thing as trash your answer. I didn't even refer to your answer. I replied solely to the OP. I never referenced your response.

It seems that no matter what I do, you're right there to complain about it.

Strange really.

Thanks you're the only how gives me a really good answer, i ask this in this forum cause there is hdd involucrated in the app i'm trying to do, cause my first try was gonna be with a old laptop, but i dont really need all the advantages that a carputer can give, but i want the advantages that a hdd can, like 120gb of video and music, the player i put is like a mini comp for those that only want music en video, but i see most of people here are a less than helpful.

Noob like just want to learn about everything, everybody in here was like i'm right now, a complete ignorant, but like me they try to learn from others that know what to do, to hace their systems, the way they like.

For all the other people GPS is not only for have in your car a ask "where am i" or "where should i go", i know a lot os GPS i pretty sure most of you have never seen how you trace a highway or how you make a neigborhood and i have done both, i just dont know s***t about navigation system the useless funtion of GPS.

Please do not let the actions of a few childish individuals ruin your perception of this forum.

There is a lot of good information to be had on here and a lot of individuals who are more than willing to help out.

I'm gathering that English is not your native tongue. There will be quite a few people on here who will harp on that. My suggestion is to ignore them. It might take a bit more time, but you will find people who are more than happy to help out if they can.

Welcome to the forum!
