Exclamation Some n00b questions ...

Hey guys! I looked around and found some answers to a lot of my questions, but a few slipped through so I thought I'd ask! (Apologies if they've been answered before!)

I have a 2006 Charger SE.

My next "mod" is going to be installing a computer/touch-screen system.

I want it to be "in dash" and look as stock as possible. I can build the computer myself and am planning on useing the Xenarc 8.4" touchscreen. I'm planning on ordering the NAV bezel to replace my current one (the RT version of the Charger has an in-dash navigation system so the bezel already exists).
  • Is the 8.4" too big? too small?
  • Is getting the NAV bezel the right way to go? (or should I have a custom piece fabricated elsewhere?)

I am not afraid to drop some $$ to get this looking right, but not needlessly.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc. are welcome!

Thanks for your help!

Very nice choice, especially since it's already for in-car use (comes with a 12v power supply) I would recomend either:
1) Contact Xenarc about the issue and see if they can help
2) See if you can get any sort of technical drawings for it. These "should" show you how large the actual unit is inside of it's nice housing.

Remeber, messure twice and cut once

Thanks for the reply! I'll be posting a thread to track the progress once I begin the install.

Anybody else have any opinions, ideas, and/or suggestions?

Is the nav bezel made for an 8.4" screen? Most are "double din" size which is usually 6.5" for cars but yours might be bigger. Measure first. If you want a clean look without too much fabricating which could include relocating the hvac controls, or cutting into that silver trim.

Does your dash kinda look like this:

If it does then a 6.5" screen is probably used. 7" screen is the common VGA touchscreen around here which requires only very moderate fabrication. THe price is about the same for an 8" as a 7".

If you are good with electronics you might be able to use the existing buttons and such to control the computer throguh a keyboard emulator or something. And then it would look just like stock.

And I think you missed the most important part... The computer! You have any ideas what you will be using?

a 6.5" screen may be used, but he would be getting rid of all the buttons around the screen most likely. From when we were looking at chargers/magnums...an 8" screen seemed like it would fit fine...however, we didn't take the dash apart to see what was behind everything.

and dito the computer! what's your part list for that?

I have a 7" WS in my truck and it is just fine.

I agree that you should measure the opening and see what fits best...it would be better if you could get a screen to fit your dash than mess with the bondo/fiberglass.

I wish I would have had the option.
