Hows this look? :)

Been roaming around the forums for a little now and posted on some topics. Now it's time to build my 1st CarPC. Just let me know what you CarPC 'experts' think.

Antec Minuet 300 case
ECS 761GX -M754 (3.0A) SiS 761 GX Micro ATX Motherboard
AMD Mobile Sempron 3000+ Socket 754
WD 80G HD
Hauppauge WINTV-PCR 150MCE-LP PCI Interface Low Profile TV Tuner Card
CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE PCI Interface Low-Profile Sound Card
DSATX 220 PSU (Does this run hot and need a fan?)
Globalsat BU-353 GPS

As for the monitor, not sure. I like the Xenarc 7", but not the price. I was thinking either the 'Super' brand from eBay or an Innovatek IN-007VT, also....

So, will this be ok for a CarPC? I was going to use a Sempron 64, but that may be overkill.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the tv card as they just don't work well enough in a car.

Yeah, I kind of thought that. Just threw it up there to see responses. But, I do want FM radio eventually through the PC using roadrunner FE.

Not really, but I'd keep it out of a tight enclosed space such as a tiny, cramped PC case.

I don't know about Super... But I'd avoid anything with the Innovatek brand like the plague. Nobody who has reported an experience with any of their products has anything really positive to say.

Here's how you need to approach this question.
Examine the functionality you want out of your vehicle computer.
Now examine your hardware.
Now ask yourself, "Self, will this hardware be able to perform all the functions I want if it were built as a desktop PC?"

If it will, then it will be fine for your vehicle PC, so long as you are have three things:
- Space for the hardware
- A way to power the hardware
- A way to keep the hardware cool enough to operate stably.

About the only FM radio worth bothering about is the HQCT. I don't have any personal experience of it but barring some connector problems it seems to work very well. Unfortunately nothing else seems to work very well in the reception department. I have tried a few of them and just ended up disappointed and stuck with a head unit. Satellite radio seems to work well if you can use that.

Hmm, how about if I add a small fan for it? I'd like to have it in the case.

Ok. I've used reg. (Non-TS) from Innovatek and had no problems. Of course, I didnt use them as much as the one for the CarPC would be.

I asked myself, and got a 'busy' signal. Sorry, couldny resist.

All I'm going to be doing MOSTLY is Nav.,music, a few DVD/Video's and maybe a link for a video camera in an RC plane.

Thanks for the help/suggestions/comments.

Yes it is, there is a couple of solutions to it working in RR but here is one of them http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/rr-plugins/93296-rrhqct-radio-extension-plugin.html .

I was looking in the RR config again and seen there is a setting for HQCT. Cool. That will be an add on later, maybe....
