Not married, are ya? Try as you may, you can not alter the rules of the universe. The more you fight it, the more trouble it is. Boy, I can go on and on about this one. Doing what You want will end in failure eventually.

Maybe not failure....
Definitely loneliness and an engorged budget for tissues and Jergen's lotion...

You get them while their young, and then mold them to do what you want.

Sitting there and letting them squeeze your boys everytime you want something, is a pathetic way to live.

Doing what I want has been working fine so far.

Tee hee...

No doubt she envisions some giant loud desktop full tower making a mess of everything AND an overly complicated Stereo that she will not be able to understand and will make her feel stupid.

If she loves and trusts you, you shouldn't have to prove anything...she should be behind you 100% and allow you to follow your dreams...

...and to help butter her up, take her out, see the movie she wants to see...listen to her tell you about her day.

...as soon as you have her convinced that you are no longer that jerk...hide the computer in the car while she isn't looking.

{married for ~17 years, computer in truck for 8 or so...now she tells me she would like some kind of navigation system...HA}

When I pitched the idea to my girlfriend she just kind of rolled her eyes and told me I'm wasting my money, but she didn't really think I would...

next time she took a ride in my car it looked like this

and she knew that I was all in and there was no stopping me

now that it's done she loves it!

The good thing, and maybe it is just a sign of my age, is that I am very comfortable making compromises in order to make my wife happy. She does the same. I do not ever need to worry about whether my masculinity is threatened nor do I feel like I am not able to do the things I want. When she nags at me, it is often because it is a voice of reason. Maybe she knows that you suck at completing projects and she is just trying to save you the trouble of failure.

Thanks for the replys!

I have been married for 15 years and by now I have almost figured out what works for me, and that is do first and ask later otherwise I would have no toys. But this time I opened my big mouth too early. That wont happen again.

I eneded up showing her this thread and she got a laugh out of some of the posts. I think by reading what everyone said about the features and benefits of the carputer she is now giving me her blessing SOLD! Done deal. THANKS!

Looks like I am off to the Fabrication forum and the For Sale section to round up some parts and ideas! I was given some guidelines like no messy wires or crap all over the truck and of course I have to stay within a budget $$$

Thanks again, look foward to seeing you guys on the board.

I have to agree with that. My wife recently did the same thing. She had been eyeing some rediculously priced purses, and was having a hard time allowing her to get a $600 one, then she ends up getting a $1800 one that I wouldn't have allowed her but after the fact I let her. Oh well I'm going nuts when upgrading my desktop PC soon Though the next big item I get I might just do the same as her. Though we both are quite frugal with money and have similar spending habits, so maybe this way is not good if you fight about money alot.

"Marriage is about love and trust." Ok and you've told your wife all your dirty secrets?

ok - as a woman...I've NEVER been able to understand spending that kind of money on something that only matches certain outfits and is used to carry around a bunch of stuff...hehehe

and I'll still stand behind the comment I made earlier...about how you shouldn't settle.

Well, it didn't start that way. My "dirty little secrets" were discovered or disclosed before we got married.
Really, you'd be a fool to think you could hide something from someone you will be living with FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Eventually, she/he will figure you out. Then the next question is, why would you want to hide things? It is refreshing knowing I really have nothing to hide. Makes our relationship that much better too!
