Noob, couple dumb ?'s

Hey, newbie here, and I'm buildin' a saintsong cappucino computer for my car...but it just has the 3.5mm plug for audio out. How can I get 5.1 surround? Also, what are people payin' for internet in their cars? Thanks.

Are there any limitations to the Cappuccino pc? You can get an on-board soundcard that will put out 5.1 but since, from my understanding, the cappuccino doesn't have room for on-board, you can use the usb soundblaster live. It's pretty popular around here. I was actually using it for a while but switched to on-board. Been meaning to sell it but I've just been lazy.

As far as internet, you can go with wireless which would pick up signals whenever you're in range of wifi or you can go with one of the cell provider's evdo such services. There's even a product out there that you can plug an evdo card into it and it's a wireless router in your car. (unlimited data from a service provider is about $20 a month)

For 5.1 sound, you need 3 jacks. You will need a sound card that provides that. Onboard sound on the via boards allow this, but you sacrifice your mic in and line in because they are converted to outs.

Each 1/8" jack carries 2 channels. 5.1 requires 6 channels (FL, FR, RL, RR, CTR, Sub). Get some 1/8" to RCA cables (Radioshack has them although those are not the best quality), and send those to your amp.

Internet in the car requires a cell service that allows GPRS or EVDO/EDGE, or whatever internet you want.

GPRS (14kbs) is about $20 for unlimited through Cingular. Broadband is closer to $40 to $80 a month. I think it is cheaper with a cell contract with them too. Also there are prepaid services. Has something to do with Tmobile I believe because they have the cheapest data plan on prepay cards with only the purchase of a cheap phone.

All of this stuff is on the forums somewhere. Search please. This is your 1 freebie.
