question regarding the power supply

Hi,
I have a spare PC laying around my house so I thought why not use
that for carputer.
But my biggest concern is the Volts it required to run...

This is the motherboard i have:
AsRock K7s41/K7S41GX
http://www.ocworkbench.com/2004/asro...41/k7s41-1.htm

and this is the power supply:
http://www.xoxide.com/orion-xp400-420w-psu.html

My question is this too much? Will I have to buy an inverter?
Or can I just buy an OPUS 250W Intelligent DC-DC PSU?
Will OPUS 250W Intelligent DC-DC PSU work with my motherboard?

Please let me know

Thank you for any support

Cheers guys

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/faq-emporium/68636-faq-will-insert-psu-model-power-supply-work-my-system.html

It's a good starting point for where you're at.
I sugest reading anything and everything in the FAQ Emporium to get an understanding of what all is involved.

Up at the top there is a link to the same page, but it's just older processors.

Here you go: http://www.journeysystems.com/power_...calculator.php

And you are aware that the socket 462 is commonly called the Socket A, right?

You don't need the exact model. And you are looking for your cpu right? Not motherboard...

I found quite a few Classic socket A's on there. I am sure your is on there.

What mystery CPU do you have.

You're really not willing to look for much, are you?

Here's the direct link: http://users.erols.com/chare/elec_pentium.htm

As I said, it's a linkUP AT THE TOP OF THE MAIN PAGE. It's labelled 486, Pentium, Pentium II/III, Athlon.

Hopwever, that link isn't going to help you one iota until you know what CPU you're going to drop into that motherboard. Motherboards aren't the most significant factor in power draw.

Yea i was looking for the CPU and not motherboard....
there are bunch of classic on the list....and they range from 35watts to 60watts....not sure what exactly mine is but even if its 60watts then i would have enough power with the OPUS 250W Intelligent DC-DC PSU...
So i guess that answers it....

My cpu is: Socket 462 , supporting AMD Athlon, Athlon XP, Duron
FSB 400/333/266/200 MHz

Chipset SiS 741+963L

I would stop right now and read a bit on computers. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING!

Your CPU may be socket a, but it does NOT "support AMD Athlon, Athlon XP, Duron", it IS one of those. Not both, or all, but 1 of them! This is pretty important information here.

And the FSB usually is listed as 1 number even though the CPU can support usually what it states and the one standard below it.

For example:

A Intel Pentium 4 3.06Ghz Socket LGA775 with a 800Mhz FSB can only fit into motherboards that have the Socket LGA775. However, not all sockets that take LGA775 chips, can take pentium 4's. Some only take Celerons. Some only take Pentium D. Some only take Extreme Edition. Some may take a mixture as your motherboard does which for you is that the motherboard can accept AMD Athlon's, Athlon XP's, and Duron's. And most people leave the FSB alone unless under/over clocking and the CPU decides what it can run at by default. My hypothetical motherboard for my intel chip probably supports 400Mhz, 533Mhz, 800Mhz, and 1000Mhz FSB. The CPU can only run at 800Mhz, so that is what it uses. If it is hot, it may switch over to 533Mhz but that is it.

Basically we need to know what type of CPU you have, not motherboard.

Every time you have posted specs, they are motherboard specs. If you still don't get it post a link.
