2007 Honda Accord EX-L 6 speed Sedan Carputer Install?

I have a question for the group. I went to my local car audio shop to inquire about installing a carputer in my brand new 2007 Accord w/dual climate control, and they said that there are NO PRODUCTS on the market to allow a carputer since I also have factory XM and need a bus device to install the carputer. FWIW, I also called the honda dealership, and they said that they will install an MP3 player for $650, which I think is a little steep just to have something that plays MP3 discs. My question is since Honda can install a third auxillary input device, is there something on the market that will allow me to install a third aux device?

Thus far I have an older Dell Inspiron 8200 P4 2.0 GHz laptop with 512 MB of RAM, so I think that would make a good MP3/WMA/Monkey Audio/FLAC player for the vehicle. I am thinking of getting a decent touch screen display to put in the bottom cubbyhole, and either mounting the laptop under the passenger seat on a custom made slide out tray or in the trunk. I will also get a decent power invertor if I can not find a direct 12v to laptop connection.

I guess my last question is am I on the right track with the computer I am planning on using or should I invest in something more powerful?

hahahah most audio shop still don't know WTF is carputer. If you tell them you need an aux input adapter so you can play Xbox/Ps sound to your HU, they probably know.

Unless you go to a good shop (not best buy), or go to a shop with an installer who knows computers, the carputer is more of a DIY type thing.

Look in the mp3car store for a carnex PSU. Refer to the FAQ to FAQ sticky in the FAQ subforum or the wiki. It will get you going in the right direction. That PC is plenty powerful enough for what you want to do.

Many thanks for the replies and I must say that I am glad that I found this site! Since I work as an IT director and possess basic electronic knowledge, I believe I can make a carputer work in my brand new vehicle! Now I know where to get the BUS adapter so I don't lose XM, and I was told that there is a CAR2PC interface for my vehicle, so I am almost ready to move forward with the project. Where is that income tax refund when I need it?

might try searching for usaspec adapters as well. I think they have something that will work for you. I have the soundgate adapter with no xm. Try driveaccord.net for more accord info.

I sold out and ended up going with an IPOD adapter to hook a 80 gigabyte IPOD up in my vehicle. Since I deal with computers on a daily basis for roughly 8 to 10 hours per day, and I really didn't feel like messing around with a computer in the car.
