How wide?

This has to be a truly newbie question so i'll put here...

I read alot about single, 1½ and double DIN. I understand it's a formfactor, but whats does it measure in millimeter in hight and width?

The most standard sizes in vehicles are Single DIN ISO 7735 (178x53mm) in Europe, South America and Australasia and Double DIN (178x106mm) in Japan and North America

While we are at din size, is there a relative standard for depth?

I know that some cars have deeper dashs, but is there a range of allowed depths for din sizes?

or a minimum/maximum?

I'm just curious.

The reason I'm asking really is that i'm planning on building in my screen in a 1 DIN case, basically from an old stereo.

Made a sketch and scanned it, so please bare with me of the quality.
But the idea is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Two bars holding the screen with two hinges so that i can pull it up towards the dash and let it rest there.
How to lock it and so on I already have ideas on, so that's not a issue.
The big issue would be if the bars have any room behind, but from a quick look it looks like theres alot of air in my Volvo S40 behind the stereo.
A new stereo, hopefully with a dvd player, will fit under this "construction" in the stock double DIN.

Maybe i should start a new thread?

Any how, here's the sketch...
