Talking First carpc first post

This is my first shot at a carpc. This is a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Micro ATX mobo, 8 inch lilliput touch screen, gps, usb wifi, 250 watt Opus, 40 gig hd (will upgrade later) onboard video, there is a slot load dvd burner under the touchscreen, very hard to see. No head unit. To do list: build stealth sub box (40% complete). PC is mounted to back of rear passenger seat. I need suggestions on what to do about a microphone for phoco or phone tools. Usb? or Line in?. Thanks in advance.

Love it!

Howd you get the slot load drive so far from the comp? Im using one as well, but wasnt sure how to go about getting it so far from the mobo.

I looked and found some external enclosures for the notebook slotload drives like we're using, but most required external 110v power. Howd you do this/get around it?

i would do a line in mic, and run the wiring up a pillar and through the headboard - have the mic above your head/drivers seat.

nice 1st setup ;]

Most of those units have a wall wart that will convert 110 AC to 12vDC.

Take a look at the wart and you'll see it.

It's how most everyone on here is running their cd drives remotely.

I ran a 12v wire coming from the molex off the Opus power supply to the dash. Here are some pics of the plexiglass case I fabricated.

Yeah, Im not worried about the power. The problem is that the slot load drives are IDE. IDE cables cannot go 10ft from my trunk to my dash. In that case, it would have to be a drive in an external 2.5" enclosure. Right?
