YANI (yet another newbie install)

OK, this is yet another, [Steve] "Hi, my name is Steve. I've been playing with computers for 20 years now." [Everyone] "Hi Steve!"

This is my first post and I have been doing some reading for a little on here. I have decided to settle on the following:
- case from Mini-box (the VoomPC-2)
- M1-ATX power supply
- Jetway J7F2WE1G5D motherboard
- XM PCR from eBay
- Bluetooth for GPS data and cell phone (the reason for the microphone in the picture below)
- Not sure of the software yet
- Can't decide on the 7" LCD touchscreen either, but leaning toward a Xenarc or "eBay special"...I need it to be an in-dash (so 7") and would really like to have it swivel (and motorized, but the budget may not allow that)

Here's a schematic of my plans:
http://www.meisners.net/autoinfo/CarPC.htm

My headunit has an aux in, so I will be using that. The HU is connected tot he 5-channel amp (obviously).

Any comments? Any general opinions on 7" in-dash screens? This is going into a 1996 turbo Camry.

This is a great forum guys! Incredible how much info is here.

Hi steve. Have you researched that Jetway board? I think I remember hearing a lot of complaints about Jetway... maybe, stability issues? Can't remember. Either way, just a heads up if you haven't looked into it.

Thanks! I have researched it and found many people liked it. There was someone (I think on this board) that was mentioning it was a good board, but the caps can expand and eventually explode. He also said he has seen this with other boards.

The price was attractive, but the final decision was the fact that it had all the ports I wanted. Also, NewEgg has one pretty cheap (an open box deal). If anything happens to it, I can always get another mobo.

Anyone know of any 7" in-dash LCD panel reviews?

Maybe I remember this wrong, but I thought the M2-ATX was just capable of more power...I take it that's wrong?

No. The M2ATX just don't play nice with JetWay brand motherboards.
It has nothing to do with power output.

Search the forums for JetWay and M2ATX and you'll find the users' issues.

No, I understand they don't work well with the Jetways. I was wondering why that was if the main difference between the M1-ATX and the M2- is just power rating. Maybe incorrectly, but I deduced from your previous statement that the M1-ATX with the Jetway is OK. Was I wrong there?

Thanks,
Steve

OK, I found the threads (I think) you were talking about. It sounds like the M1-ATX will be fine with the Jetway. I wasn't using the correct string to search for.

I just placed the order for my Jetway from NewEgg only $140 and my 120G HDD.

Thanks for your replies!
