New to this

Hey guys, Im new here so I have questions.... Can I use a laptop to get my system started until I buy a seperate pc.... Can I wire it to the power supply board or something of that nature. I want to start getting things going but im the Wife said no budget and have to make the most of things that I either have or can get one at a time , as in the display..... can someone enlighten me on this so I can move forward with the project.
