Well guys ...about ready to pull the trigger on this unit from AOPEN.....

(+409.00) MP945-VDR Black/DVDRW/Core2Duo/DDR2-667/SATA/Video/GBLAN/90W
(+315.00) Intel Pentium M Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz 4MB CPU
(+76.00) Crucial 1GB 512MBx2 DDR2-667 SODIMM............................................ .Should I use just one stick or 2?
(+193.00 ) -- 2.5 inch; Seagate 160GB SATA/NCQ -- 5400RPM
(+125.00) WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM X32, DVD.......................................Does RoadRunner work with Vista?
(+189.00) MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007 W32 BASIC EDITION
(+ 39.00 ) -- Wireless Network Card & Antenna
(+25.00) Assembly and Testing W/ CustomPC box
Total: $1371

I already have the Xenarc 700-TSV screen

So any critiques and CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions on how you gurus would build with this set up? (you can see the options by clicking on the side of the page on my build list link)
Would you go Vista OS 32 or 64?

And it is encouraging to see you last 2 guys posting your good experiences with the aopen boxes cuz that has given me the faith to move forward with the purchase. So guys and 2k1Toaster ...what do you think?

I got to tell ya guys I wish I had the time learn and then build one by trial and error and burn something up and get radically frustrated, but I don't! I keep reading how people mismatch mobo's/chip sets/ bios drivers to CPU's and things won't work.....scares the crap out of me. And fortunatley I have more money than brains right now(maybe not tomorrow, hehehe) so I need a plug and play situation for right now. And I want cutting edge for the future.

Thumbs up

Z1,

I have been rethinking new setup myself. Been looking at MP945-VDR for little while now. In addition, technically new setup is somewhat free since I loaned the IRS a few grand interest free last year.

I was about ready to pull trigger last week when I came across a DIY kit from AOpen, idid i345. http://global.aopen.com.tw/products_...aspx?Auno=2383

Same MB as Mini PC but, more component recourses on native board, than in Mini configuration. Only 4 USB (2 Better than VXR) out of 8 available, and only able to use the Mini PCI and not the PCIe. I would like to go with add on sound card this time. Waiting for http://www.dailytech.com/ASUS+Prepar...rticle6538.htm very nice specs on release.

DIY MB options from AOpen.

I know the case is about 6" wider and 2" longer than Mini PC, but I have a 1-ton Dodge Ram 4 X 4 with plenty of room in my center console for things. Still have space above passanger seats for some things. Shelf's have lighter power adapters on both side for cell phone, radar, ect.

Anyway, I think with the processing power & low heat the Mini PC will make for a nice CarPC. I just went the TruckPC route. I still might get one for wife setup later this year.

Good luck, I will watch for review.

Hey Folks,

The Aopen Mini PC uses an Intel Core 2 Duo socket M (478-pin) Merom mobile processor, it is not compatible with desktop 478-pin processors (P4's or backwards compatible with mobile socket 479).

Hope that clears any confusion up.

Regards

Hey Tower Boss,
Thank you sooooo much for replying to my post! I appreciate all your input. I actually was looking at the AOpen i945GMt-FA mobo before I thought about buying one already built. I had a IT guy that was going to help tutor me along on my own build, but then he backed out because he got a new position at work.

To be honest I would love to build my own off the above platform.....but I don't know how and I need guidance.
I just designed and bought my sound system for my 06 350Z which consists of......
Sony WX-7700MDX head unit
Sony XT-XM1 satellite receiver
Sony XA-300 module w/t USB
Phoenix Gold Xenon 200.4 Amp
CDT ES620 upstage speakers (front stage)
CDT ES600 (rear fill/surround)
Kicker KX2500.1 amp
2 10" FI D2 Q subwoofers
Zenclosure sub box
2 Kinetik HC1800 batteries
Wrangler 180amp HO alternator
Tons O Monster Cable wires
Xenarc 16.9 7" touchscreen

Before I start installing my system myself, the carpc is the last component I'm trying to nail down. Hey, it actually sounds like you are going for the same type of build as I including a good sound card. Mind if I emulate you, can you lend a noob a hand????????
